GTR_Legend
Guys, Have had a major service and hada hicas lock bar put in. Over the last couple of days i have started to hear a knock from the back of the car when driving, sounds like somthing swinging in the fuel tank as its not constant but not sure, will have to have a look on the weekend. Just want to see if any one has had an issue like this and what it was? cheers, Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/126055-knock-knock/ Share on other sites
sh@un
First thing I would check is the exhaust- Specifically, make sure the mounts are still secure, or have a look at the clearance the tie-rod has with the exhaust while the car is on the ground now that the hicas set-up has been modified. Whoever installed it may have messed with the exhaust hangers or something in that area. You've gotta use pry bars 'n shit to do work on that stuff. It's tight in there too, with a decent sized 'zorst. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/126055-knock-knock/#findComment-2328063 Share on other sites

GTR_Legend
F@CK Just drove from the city back to work and its heaps worse now. Seems to be a constant knock when i decelarate, think it could be a diff/driveshaft issue? Craved
jack the car up, have it in gear and try to turn the wheels suddenly.. see if it makes that sound.. that will discover if its drive line related MAKE sure the handbrake is off for this one, also try it out of gear aswell also while its up.. shake the exhaust to see if it moves enough to make that noise Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/126055-knock-knock/#findComment-2329700 Share on other sites
GTR_Legend
cant jack it up yet but just had a look at the axles, the left one has some play in it, i can move it back and forward The above is normal operation Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/126055-knock-knock/#findComment-2329710 Share on other sites
Craved
is it only this one that does it? edit - that doesn't explain why noise is only on deceleration though Edited July 14, 2006 by Craved Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/126055-knock-knock/#findComment-2329749 Share on other sites
MerlinTheHapyPig
take it back to mechanic who did service. let them figure it out. it sounds like it could be some part of the exhaust hitting, maybe the tailshaft or one of the driveshafts. That happened to a friends silvia. I think flange on cat was hitting tailshaft. qikstagea
on deceleration there is no positive force/pressure on the axles. they are spinning loosely, really. Same as why i was getting diff chatter on deceleration and constant speed, but never under load. Just see if you can get it on a hoist, and anything that moves, move it. Turn it. Shake it. Process of elimination. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/126055-knock-knock/#findComment-2332399 Share on other sites

Check to see if the handbrake cable hasnt come of its bracket as this can occur hitting the tailshaft Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/126055-knock-knock/#findComment-2335029 Share on other sites
GTR_Legend
Farkin bad!!!! Both rear tyres had loose nuts, (were not tightened after service just over 1 week ago). Lost one nut, another 5/10 k's the wheels would have fallen off. I didn't even check the wheels at first as it is something simple i thought the workshop would have tightened! Called and expressed my feelings.... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/126055-knock-knock/#findComment-2335248 Share on other sites
