I will be working over seas for six months getting some pretty good dollers, but am unsure now of what to do when I get back ? fix up my GTST or buy a GTR? The GTST has a number of mods allready and is running 165 rwkw, the inside outside is near stock , I was planing on dumping a rb25 in power fc , body kit and respray, re-trim inside and a few other little things spending about 10,000 - 12,000. Or sell it as is and buy a GTR and keep it near stock.

R32 GTSTs with RB25s are pretty fun! Very fast but cheaper to insure and WAY lighter on fuel that a GTR...well mine is anyway

I would take you for a drive in mine but I blew the turbo!

To be honest, if you're going o/s and when you come back have a lot of money to spend get a GTR.

But if you want just a car you can customise a bit more, just keep the gts-t. I can help you do the rb25 if you want. It's just more of a challenge to turn it into a good all round machine, but I like a challenge. If you can't be bothered stuffing around with things, the GTR has it all in one already.

Depends what you want to use the car for as well. It seems about 2/3 of GTR owners end up with a blown engine at some point, or are too scared to go to a track in case it does go. Usually sooner than later. With an rb25 it's at least a little lower on that ratio, and a lot cheaper to replace or rebuild if it does happen. I just think an old GTR = an expensive proposition.

As a wise man once said, A GTR is like an Ex Girlfriend... You never come out witch what you win in with.

As a GTR owner you better hope those pockets run deep if something go's wrong.

In all honesty, & I believe this is a trap that so many people fall into, a GTR is as a MINIMUM a $30k investment.

Meaning either buy a car that has had a recent VERIFIED engine re-build or if you do take the gamble, make sure to budget for a re-build sooner rather than later.

There is NO SUCH THING as a bargain GTR (re: $20k etc) that won't cost you more in the long-run & the more you spend initially, the better off you'll be in the end.

Having said all that, there truly is NOTHING that can compare to a well prepped GTR for the price.

IF you're in the position to do the above, go the GTR. You'll never regret it!!

GTRs are a blast to drive when you don't own them but are getting old and very expensive!

On the flip side, now I've driven an R32 with an RB25 incerted, it also was an absolute blast with well sorted suspension and brakes i'd have it any day over a GTR! But it comes down to preference = YOURS.

So I say, Drive both and make your own mind up. I'm sure someone on these forums would be willing to take you for a spin sometime!

but seriously, if you were to go gtr, dont get a stocko as itd be off the road most the time & ud be pouring alot more than 10k into it. So if you were to go gtr, then get a recently built one (ricknismo for instance, 27k cant go wrong!)

If you use to and want to slide the car all over the place don't get a GTR, their no where near as fun but the GTR just has so much more torque and feels so much better to drive and loves to rev so much more smoothly ... and spins bearings :banana:

Not true in all cases, just most. But I agree, it is far better to spend more upfront and get one with mods and allow $6k or so for a rebuild just in case.

A 32 GT-R can be just as much fun sideways as a GTS-T if you pull the fuse or put in a simple toggle switch to disable the 4WD too.

I just don't know. I've driven both a lightly modded R32 GTR and a highly modded GTS-T and for the get-off-the-line-holy-crap, you can't go past a GTR. BUT!!! The GTS-T was only 1 second behind the GTR on the National Circuit at QR, same driver. For the dollars and fun factor, I would go a GTS-T (RB25 only though)

Also, a lot of the GTR owners I know are not game to launch hard because they are frightened of breaking something.

    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something

    • Uncle Duncan Yeap, FI Interchiller  Works well, normal IAT's cruising with the WTA only went from 50°c+ to 25-30°c with the interchiller  Before, when on it hard, the IAT would see 80-90°c, now, the highest has been was around 38°c IIRC IAT is measured under the blower hat I recommend it for the street or strip where your only on it hard for 10 or so seconds, but it wouldn't be efficient for sustained track use as it would heat soak from the AC turning off or whatever it does during WOT to protect the compressor It really needs the AC running for it to not heat soak and keep the WTA coolant chilled My WTA coolant temps when just cruising is around 2°c
