Basically, my stock 25 went this week, so I'm doing a rebuild, and have got 2 out of 3 options. 1 was to replace it with another 25 that would be about 3k all up. Not doing that because if the 2nd hand engine hasn't had a good life & decided to pop as well it would screw me.

So it's either a full build with forged pistons, rods etc etc, or rebuild my 25 with some rb25 pistons, new gaskets etc etc.....

So what I am asking, does anyone on here have a 33 gtst in particular that is used on the street, on a regular basis? I'm just trying to get some idea on the practability of it, get an idea of what it will cost on fuel, blah blah blah.... I just want to see things like what boost you are running at for a low setting, would you advise anyone else to not go that way...

I've got 350rwhp now & that is fine, fuel consumption is still rather good but the biggest thing for me is that I drive at least 300ks a week, and that's just to & from work. I am considering getting a bunky for work if I did go the forged build.

But yeah if anyone can help a brother out, it would be appreciated

Stick with 350rwhp for a street car mate.

I had 300rwkw+ (400rwhp) and it was fun.

BUT, you cant have fuel economy with a car like that.

As soon as the car gets a whiff of boost fuel economy goes out the window as you'll need bigger injectors (550cc or larger) and so on.

I could get mid 300km's to a tank, i never saw over 400km's to a tank like i would have with a more sutble setup.

My advice, Just rebuild it with a set of pistons, thats all you really need.

You dont need rods etc, just a good set of rod bolts. Just add another $1000 or so to the cost for the forged pistons, and stick to 350rwhp.

If you really want rods, use GTR items, more than adequate for under $400

streetability is not just about "if the car can take it"

its things like

- having major lag for overtaking

- bad ass shit fuel economy

- how hard the power hits (aka, fishtail into the car next to you)

- car could be up to it, but it will start snapping shit (fuel pumps, axles, diffs, transmissions etc)

and many more like that.

Thanks for the answers guys, I should also add that the driving is up & down the freeway 1/2hr each in non-peak hour times so I get a touch over 400ks to a tank.

347.1rwhp was the lowest my car could be tuned to with the gear on it, the turbo is good for 500hp (GT30R), I have a 700hp fuel pump but still have standard injectors so that would be another thing to look at. I would be able to get a set of gtr rods for free as the shop I'm using is building a very tough GTR & he is happy to give them to me. At the moment I am leaning towards the basic rebuild however, just weighing it all up. :)

yeh i got a 79 rolla as a daily driver 40 bucks lasts me like 2 weeks and thats drivin 80kms each day cost me 400 bucks...think bout it good investment, as for the weekend my r33gtst i previously had 250rwkw and blew the engine and turbo, now changin turbo and getting engine built for 300+rwkw, point is if you have enough money to spend on gettin your engine done get a cheap car to comute in and have a wicked toy

buy a daily driver...

i pretty much had to.

im running 400rwhp - 294rwkw and i was looking at fuel economy of 13L/100km ie. 450km a tank without hitting a freeway (just

but this was big long drives as i travel 152kms A DAY to and from work - no freeway/highway

450 a tank with no freeway is awesome for 400hp! Last week I filled up with 415ks done, I drive an hour on the freeway for 5 days with work, so most of the time it's cruising at 100 & not on boost.

also remebering that wether you have 200rwkw or 600rwkw cruising at 100km/h in 5th isnt exactly a load demanding environment. as long as the cruise AFRS are tuned it shouldnt matter how much power you make. so basing economy off highway results probably isnt useful. major fuel economy seems to sucks when you come on boost, as the dials in stacks of airflow

yup thats right... so 400hp ... full boost at 5000rpm :whistling:

so im off boost mostly unless i need it.

but that said. a run up the Old Pacific highway took the same fuel as 2 other gtsts - 1 stock 1 with 250rwkw and a GTR with 330rwkw .. all used 1/4tank cos we all filled up at the same petrol station on the way .

so there is heaps involved in economy as Paulr33 said
