Hey ladz, just a bisic question..

my turbo is making a funny noise, it sounds like its really sucking in air hard.... i have just put a K&N pod filter on and it just seems like its sucking in a bit too much, there is no other noises like scraping or anything just a very prominant sucking noise before it comes on boost... its fairly loud... is this normal... does anyone else have a K&N pod filter on their r33?

does yours have a really loud sucking noise?

Completely normal

as said, 100% normal. you have just put a much more free flowing air filter on, so the engine can breath better. if you want a filter that doesn't make anywhere near as much noise get one of the k&n pods with the flat top (bigger at the top, smaller where it clamps on). my old 180sx had 1, and a mates r33 had one and neither made any induction noise.

ok well i have a coned shape one on it now, just teh normal one as far as im concerned...

nope. could be that the bov has either had a restricter put in it, it has had the recirculation hole blocked up, or its just plain stuffed.... is it a stock bov?

no its not stock, its an Apexi BOV, so its a really good brand, surely its not f*kked, im sure im not the only one with this flutter noise that seems to come from teh air filter ot something...

does anyone else have it?

do u like it, i think it sounds f*kkin tough....

but mine will onyl do it under very low psi, once it boosts properly it lets go the way it should...

i especially notice it on teh highway, when you lightly accelerate to overtake then back off it flutters like a bitch.... but i think it sounds.... GANXTA

yeah thast correct BHDave, but i have notice sometimes when i give it a bit in first (when turning into a driveway or something)

and then the bov lets go as it should it does stall, only very rarely... but why does it do this?

when it flutters it never stall, only rarley when the bov lets go as it should, any way i can make it do it more?

:(

I guess your apexi bov is not plumb back.

The flutter you get from backing off at low boost is because your bov doesn't activate due to the spring tension being set high.

The air that the bov would release if it was working backs up and gets chopped by the compressor wheel making the flutter sound.

When you back off from higher boost there is enough pressure to open the bov to let the air out.

The trouble with letting the air out is that the air is already measured by the afm and the ecu has sent fuel for it which makes it run too rich and causes the motor to stall.
