Hi guys,

i have an r32 gtr with a defect notice which is quickly running out of time to sort out,

the cop that gave me the notice didnt really know what was legal or illegal on my car so wrote a small list of things he thought might not be legal and gave me a ticket for driving a defective car, and so now i have to get a saftey certificate asap.

the only parts ive changed since it was complied is a momo steering wheel and carbon fibre bonnet. after a lot of research im still not sure if these bits are right or wrong, both things i can change if i must but would rather not as they r a matter of couple of months old and i would need to track down a gtr bonnet(not easy)

can someone please let me know if they know of someone that might be able to help me out with passing this saftey certificate in the brissy area.

thanks guys i appreciate your help.

What did the officer "list". You may need to do two trips. As in get the car inspected (after removing as much as you can) and if there is stuff that still needs fixing as advised by the QT person, do it and go back.

the list was in his words

ensure fibreglass bonnet complies with legislation

fit wind screen washes to vehicle

foam air filters

cover missing from air filter cover

ensure steering wheel complies adr 10 - 28 - 69

ensure exhaust complies with noise/emissions

Taken directly from the QLD transport ADR guide:

http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/LTASinf...%20_Feb2004.pdf

Steering wheels must be at least 350mm in diameter and must not be more than 26mm

smaller than the original steering wheel.

Queensland Transport will accept products with the following brand names:

Momo, Australi, ET, SAAS, Autotechnica, Formuling and OBA.

Your momo steering wheel is legal provided, ur car didn't come standard with an airbag steering wheel and the diameter is not smaller than 350mm.

Good luck!

Bummer mate ... the Fibre glass bonnet is a doozey!!! How hell do you find out about that ?

It might be like n15m0's Info on Steering wheels, Accepted brand's Or Maybe get/borrow a stock one simply for Deffects.

Good luck ...

For the bonnet, agreed, go "borrow" or buy a stock bonnet. It shouldn't be too hard to find or borrow one.

Windscreen washers, again, not too hard to find, wreckers should sort you out.

For the air filter issue, simply borrow a stock airbox.

Steering wheel, as n15m0 said. If you need a letter regarding the Momo one, I believe that Konrad (on here) has a letter from Momo that he used to clear a defect. Again, it might be model specific but could help you out.

As for the exhaust noise, the car must be less than 90dB at 75% load. From memory, GTR's are 92dB stock. Options are to borrow a stock exhaust and tell the assessor that it is stock (they should be able to tell be looking) and they have to allow 1db for testing. Remember that the noise test must be free from obstacles in a 3-4m radius. The microphone also needs to be properly placed just away from the tip, not inside etc. If you want diagrams, I can supply (ive been done for noise) but i'd say that most assessment centers will test you correctly.

hey, yeah can help with the letter, but its going to be a problem as i'll be working out of town for the next three consecutive weeks, if i can remember i'll take a copy of the documents with me and can fax them to you next week..

Have sent a pm with my mobile details, give me a call/text if you think this will help. I'm flying out sunday night so remind me before then. Failing that autobarn slacks creek was where i got the paperwork from, you could try them.

For the record i got defected a while ago, and the cop told me to take the car as is to QT for the inspection, THIS IS NOT TRUE. Fix up what he has listed as best you can, then take it.. you need to make the booking within a few days of getting the defect (cop told me 7 but think he was going for scare tactics) BUT YOU CAN PUT OFF THE DEFECT INSPECTION, ie: you can book it for 3 months time if you like. Would only be an issue if you got done again, they will want to know why you havent got off your ass and fixed the problem sooner. (i often work out of town so my inspection was almost 2 months after i got defected).

for post inspection - mine all they wanted was a bolt on my airbox (that i got to replace my pod filter), 2 new front tyres fitted (as one had wear on the outside edge past the indicators) and replacement of my steering wheel or the paperwork to prove it was legal, BUT they give you TWO WEEKS to do this.

I should note that my momo wheel is 32cm across, so does not comply with ADR10. But they wont know that (in my case the model code was BFR32 leather 3 spoke or something). The idea is to baffle them with paperwork and bullshit :):)

All i did was fill out a form to say i had fixed the problems they found, got the tyre place to sign it to say they fitted 2 legal front tyres, and sent them the paperwork which is from an engineer at roman autotek (the aussie importer of momo) that the specified wheels (in this letter) comply to some european design rule which is equivalent to ADR10.

With this form i sent them a nice letter, even included a picture of my momo wheel and highlited my model of wheel specified in the paperwork i got from autobarn.

Good luck, I never heard back from them and its been over 8 months :)

If you need to borrow a standard 32 gtr bonnet, u can come grab mine as its sitting in the shed whilst the engine's being built.

OR if you want to sell ur cf one, mayeb we can swap or something? send me a PM :P

Thanks guys for all your help, means alot.

the notics says i need a certificate inspection at an approved inspection station. does anyone know of someone that does these, i would rather go to someone that has been recomended to me then go to someone that could be an anal barsted and not give me any slack.

have they ticked 'major' on the defect notice?? an inspection station means taking it over the pits and the shaker the tranny dept themselves. Theyre's one out at darra, i think they'res a few around brisbane.

You can expect them to be thorough, they were with my car. It gets shaken, they test front, rear and handbrake performance using a special roller system, aswell as a visual inspection over the pits for fluid leaks, tyre wear, underbody damage etc... Oh and as you're driving onto the ramps theyre is a big piece of metal that sticks up conviniently at the same height as minimum legal ride height, so if your cars excessivley low you can damage the bumper, or worst rip the exhaust off.. they also checked seatbelt webbing, all lights and indicators, body panels for bog, and literally ripped apart (and broke clips) of my boot trim looking for nos gear.. (yes my car is close to stock too ;) )

Well it's good to see that Mr Little is still writing defect notices for things he clearly doesn't understand. We were done by the same guy, and he ticked major defect for us.

To get noise and emissions tested, we went to Qantum Performance at Slacks Creek, and he signed off on the approved inspection.

Compared to Konrad's experience, I got off easy at the Logan Central QT inspection station.

A good avenue for complaint against this officer is through the CMC (www.cmc.qld.gov.au), they take all complaints very seriously and will follow up within a week (inside information). If enough of us can complain about this unfair treatment (my car was completely legal, but it cost me over $300 to prove that to them), then something can be done about him writing these bogus defect notices.

Good luck.

Anywhere that you can get a roadworthy is considered an approved inspection station.

Mr Little has defected me twice in two weeks for similar things.

To clear the notice you need to get a letter from any approved inspection station saying that the things listed on the defect notice has been inspected at their workshop.

You have to make an appointment at Queesland Transport at Logan City for an inspection, i think it's about $80.

When you get there the guy will go over the list with you and also check over your whole car (over the pits).

When i went there to get both of my defect notices cleared everything Mr Little had listed as a defect was deemed as LEGAL by Queensland Transport! He is just a WANKER!

The pod filter doesn't need to be returned to stock.. just secured and enclosed.

As for the bonnet.. just borrow a stock one.

Apart from that you should be right!

 Good Luck!
