Well, my front (and rear) bumper needs a respray and i started shopping for quotes. one place gave me a massive $1500 just for the 2. now the main gripe i have is they told me i need to replace the chrome strips that go around the bumpers. i thought these could just unclip/detach and then go back in later. she was adamant that i couldn't do that and she was going to source some new ones for me. i don't know if they're trying to stitch me or these bumpers actually need to have the chrome replaced.

if anyone has had the same thing happen or has repainted the stock bumpers could you let me know how you went about it?

try to get a few qoutes from a good panel beaters around your area. Normally panel beater that have good cars (Bms, mercs ETC) will be a good indication or those used by the dealers(Bmws, mercs ETC)

Offer them a cash job which will be much cheaper. My panel charge me for a fender $300 the last time i did respraying. Dont forget though they have to take off the bumpers that might add abit on the labor. But then if you a skill full enough take it off yourself to save abit on the labor

my panel beater fixed/repaired a fibreglass front bar and resprayed both the front and rear bars on my celsior for $450.

he also resprayed the rear bar of a camry that i tapped for $150

i would expect him to charge about $200-300 max for a front bar spray only.

We just recently resprayed my car and we removed all the strips to do so.

They are held on by a really good (not dodgy) double sided tape.

They were fine to remove and then re-stick.

We didn't get around to doin my bumpers but thats another job for another weekend.

But my other half says that they should be the same as the rest of the car.

Have you considered doin the bumpers yourself?

Might be a cheaper alternative if you buy the paint and do it yourself..

I was quoted around $400 to repair a crack (sizeable) on right corner of rear bumper bar, clean for painting, and repaint in silky snow pearl using paint that I will supply. Quote included for removal and refit of the rear bar....... I havent taken it up as yet.

Hey Terminal, who did you see for your quote/s?

so far i've only received a quote from the belconnen auto refinishers just around the corner from you near sportsmans warehouse. can you shed some light on someone else in belco who won't ask for my first born?

Is it difficult getting matching Stag colours if you want to DIY?

yes it would be very difficult to get the color matched up even by the panel beater. They use a computer color codes to mic the paint up. They cross reference it with the nissan colors. If they didnt get it right your car will ooklike its got a lighter tan on the newly painted section. or more tan.

So its best to get a panel beater that uses computer color mixer and of course oven baked and fresh  .

If you want to DIY i suggest you remove the section that you want and just let them paint it.

Did they say anything about having to replace the chrome strips along the bumper? that's why mine was so high, they said i had to replace them, they couldn't just put them back on after the painting

    • January or Feb is it booked in for turbo fitment?
    • The MX5 has had some annoying rattles in both front doors over bumps So I installed fancy pants door bushings, which stopped all of the rattles with the windows up, but........with the windows down there was still rattles, so after some googling,  and a chat with MX5 Mania, I got some new door to glass weather seals, all the rattles, windows up, or down, are gone now Shout out to MX5 Mania, the weather seals were on sale, and when I head to Dural to pick the up they even fitted them for me for free I did see a "really" nice Blue NA sitting out front   and this Black NC PRHT that looked like it has sat in the sun for its whole life and never had a wash, the clear coat was non-existent, an it looked horrible, really horrible, but, it had a nice turbo kit with over 200kw, the thing went like a cut snake, bagging the rears through the gears and dosing like a champ 😍 But, as I've always stated, I am keeping my NC na, I'm happy with the current power the car makes In other news: MX5 Mania do a drive in drive out turbo kit, the only minor additional part recommended for boosting my car, as it sits now, is a oil cooler, and that bonnet vents are definitely required for track use Aftermarket version look a bit to "racecar" spec I wonder how Focus RS bonnet vents would look?????
    • Paint is only structural when applied to the outside of Chinese and Indian cars. Otherwise it should never be present between mechanical joints that were intended to be metal to metal. Pain slips, slides, cracks, compresses, and add thickness that wasn't intended to be there. It comes firmly under the category of "just no".
