Yeah I remember a mate of mine Rob used to drive his 9 sec full weight XA Hardtop GT from Underwood to willowbank(45 min drive) and drive it everywhere during the week-just unload the esky and change the tyre pressures and go run a 9 sec pass-I always thought now thats a 'real' tough street class drag car. I think has best was 9.01@ 152 mp/h from memory, someone was telling me he went 8.99 but I saw 9.01 with my own eyes-ha ha makes a joke of all the trailer queen 11 sec cars- ha ha

could you drive the 7.91et 184mph supra on the street, yes you could, it still has a factory fuel tank, full interior etc.

ryan woons supra runs 8.6's without n20, its still street registered and driven. i cant imagine the old XA would be to nice on the street with a big cam. but i spose anything is possible.

Mark Hayes - 7.99 @ 177mph - drives on the street monthly and is a pussycat. The Pioneer stereo pumps the whole way too!

I was referring to the suggested definition/thoughts on what a street car was - not suggesting it was legal.

Although I have seen and heard the relative merits of his car questioned and justified re: legal or not. It's only two stages of Nitrous though. :)

It's the Leyland P76 front brake rotars that make the difference!!

This was a regular driven car and I havnt seen to many 8-9sec daily driven supra's around lately

I, as Adrian was suggesting that a street car should be just that a regular driven street car-nothing realy to do with legal or not

Rob's XA was 502 cu Jack Roush race engine with 3 stages of N2O

jzx81 chaser = mx83 cressida.

same chasis just different engine option was sent to australia. it utilises factory engine mounts factory gearbox mounts every thing is same except we got the shitty 7m version, it only takes 1 day and i bit of knowledge to turn a mx83 cressida to a jzx81 chaser if you use the jzx81 halfcut, all the electical plugs plug into each others loom, its a peace of piss change as its the same car.

the debate on whats a street car will always go on.

bottom line, if its street registered and driven on the street in my opinion its a street car. whether you go to the track and run slicks N20 race fuel, it doesnt matter, that stuff is legal for your class thats fine, the fact you choose to have both a street car and a race car in one is not a problem.

the day i can no longer register my car in the lovely state of NSW, that is the day i will no longer consider it a "street" car.

Thats my point, you put a motor from the same model car into your car...Kinda like like the Americans replacing their KA24DE's with SR20DET's with the S13 and S14 Silvias. Same car just different motors from factory...

In MY opinion, and I really stress the "MY" part, a street car is a one that retains the OEM motor, and driveline. I think it is easier to put a bigger motor in a smaller car with a glide and run fast et's and mph as opposed to someone who takes the time and uses the oem motor and driveline and gets the same results.

Sure there are people that have street driven cars with different motors and driveline combos and thats cool, and I still respect that and yes it is a "street" car as such, but in "MY opnion" its not a street car if you get what im saying.

I know my view may not be to everyones, probably anyones, taste. But thats just me...

Yeah XB..what did i say?? ..ah sht I just checked I said XA..my bad..yeah it was Rob Bertolaci's car..I havnt seen or heard of him for ages..I think he gave the drags away.. the car started off as a red 351c and ended up a maroon 502cu weapon..ha ha :P

In the states dont you have to drive your car around a circuit for a few miles in order to qualify it to run in a street class? Thats a good idea if it is the case.

just came back from USA watching the street guys there most drive through the water and stop a foot or so after the water before doin a burnout rather than starting your skid in the water this way the inner arches arent drenched in water thrown up off the tyres as you move forward to the line.

There would not many cars running in super street or Sports rear if this was the case, unless you wanted to see 14sec passes all day...... boring.
