is there any of these track days with instructors attending???

i want to make a start.....

I'd be up for that!

Paul, any chance of a session with instructors? Can first timers take someone with them (outside of the passenger runs)?

It was a great day!! Bit disappointed with the clubman timings though but ill be back faster in November! Need more camber and suspension adjustments...LoL...was great to meet people from SAU that ive never met before like pear, harry, peter, steve and everyone else who said hello~

Steve..yer r34 vspec is hot! I love those endless brakes~~wish i had bigger brakes!! No problem Harry, it was great to meet ya and yeah i hope to see ya there next time out there again or at other events~

Thanx Paul for another great track day and everyone there who made such a fantastic day out there possible!

I wouldn't be too worried about your first time on the clubman track mate, your times on the other circuits were excellent! and with the "experimental" spring setup you had on the day which was far from optimal. Once you've got the suspension sorted and you're on matched tyres front and rear, you'll be even faster!

My focus is getting the car right for next year and the QLD SuperSprint Series at Morgan Park. Wheels, tyres, brakes, camber, and a few other bits and pieces... But I'll be there if I can get another set of wheels and semis in time for the next Time Attack. No more racing on Federal 595SS tyres for me!

I only did one session of the Sprint and Sportsman tracks, so a total of 10 hot laps. They certainly wore a bit, but not too bad. I was less impressed with the tyres on Tuesday than other track days - they just felt alot squishier in corner entry and mid corner than before. Might have had something to do with chasing the STi on the Sportsman track and running out of brakes mid-way through the sessions. They are a good road tyre, but expecting them to really cope with track days is asking a bit much, like any road tyre. And its very frustrating chasing a STi with semi slicks while you're on normal roadies... really a waste of time going to the track on roadies if you have a competitive streak!

EDIT: I had a closer look at the LH front last night. it wore worse than I first thought, almost taking chunks out of the outer tread blocks. The LH front cops a hiding at QR...

definitely in for the next one in november. Looks like mad fun, plus more skylines out there. Be able to get the race car out and mix it up with you guys. Im excited just thinking about it....woot. Just for comparison what sort of sprint times are you guys doing?

Im already thinking about the november day...

I cannot wait till i can unleash the yellow beast...

My top speed down the back straight was 224kph in 5th. My top speed in 4th was 198kph bouncing off the rev limiter. But my brakes were crap and my street tyres would not let me turn without drifting. So next time ill have bigger brakes and hopefully semi slicks... Oh and a bigger turbo of course... :woot:

Pear, Franky you dont need an instructor. Just sit down with the map of the track and figure out what enrties and exits you should take and then go around at your own pace. Follow the car in front of you into the corner and match their entry/exit lines.

You cannot go wrong really... It was not until i caught an MX5 did i realise i was going about it the wrong way. He had a far more fluent way of entry and exit and used less brakes and was not a hard as i was.

Hey Guys, I have updated the sticky thread back on the QLD page of the forum. Check it out. A lot of new entries !!!

r33 racer you can see all the times on that sticky thread.

The November 28 date is looking to be huge, I already have people wanting to book in. I will send out the email soon with all the details. If you want to join track day, just PM me your email address.

Make sure the Skylines are well represented for the final track day of the year !!

What were you getting down the front straight col ???

Front straight was up to about 175 touching 180kph...

Hard to say cause i was experiencing some major braking issues so i was backing off way before everyone else... Mind you i still have not put the GT30 on yet either... I drove the car very hard, i got every bit i could out of her...

turn 1 is like a 160-180km corner depending on the line taken...best ive gone through on semi slicks and lame tein suspension at about 150 down from about 200odd.

My old man tried it at 220 when we got new slicks on....his confidence was greatly misplaced. Funny to watch a r33 doing a gazillion 360 spins.

Turn 1 is quite bumpy i guess fer me, first its the braking on those bumps, then it was bumping up n down thru the turn itself too..somehow the bumps felt worse than the last time...really gotten soften up those springs and get more suspension travel on my car to absorb those bumps i guess..i got up to about 210-220kph on the home straight on average i think before needing to brake but was only going thru the corner at about 140-160kph (it sure is hard to look at the speedo when yer car is bumping up n down n going thru the corner), it's just way too bumpy for my car at the moment...

anyone else feel the track surface was slippery as hell for the early part of the day?

Or was it just my tyres and the water in the dipper?

EDIT: also, if you're after some photos: http://www.fulllockphotos.com/

dunno about the first part of the day, i only ran in the afternoon... but i will say that turn 1 was getting very slippery with my semi-slicks with the little rainshower we had halfway through the afternoon... luckily it only lasted for a lap or 2 before it dried out again

Probably the conditions on QR on the day was not giving us the most traction possible...early in the morning it was a bit slippery, we were already told there was some oil around and it did feel slippery going around at first, especially the water in the dipper...everytime i went thru that i would come out a bit unsettled..but after the effort taken to clear up the puddle it got a bit better and i would say the amount of available traction on the track was getting better through the day.

The time sheets in the green folder there on the day also had speeds for each car, which I assumed was a trap speed at the timing equipment at the start/finish line? It would be an interesting comparison to see those speeds if you can post them up for us MountainRunner? I rarely look at the speedo on the track - more interested in oil and water temps...
