Engine Conversion

Hi People

Im just doing some research and tryin to consider my options in my head.

My engines running low on compression so i need a rebuild

I could go down the path of rebuilding the engine wif forgie and a whole lot of bells and whistles and make a monster engine.

I could also go for an RB26dett and get alot more power for the same amount of cash

My budget is about $5000.

Im leaning towards the rb26dett in a r33 gtst.

So far engine wiring loom, chassic wiring loom, rb26 ecu..........

Has anyone done this conversion before, if so can you please shed some light on this for me. Its a bit of a grey area for me so ur opions will count.

Im after possible problems after the engine is built and put in and then it decides for example not to start or sumtin like that.

Doubt you'll do a RB26DETT for $5G; you'd be lucky to pick up just the engine for that.

I did a RB25DET into R32, cost me the best part of $8G, and that's with me doing the labour

Personally, i'd consider rebuilding the current engine rather than swapping in a 26. But it all depends on you current state of mods (ie, what you can swap over) and what your ultimate goal is.

the RB26 probaly not the best option as if its cheap its cheap for a reason and RB26 engines are very expensive to rebiuld (10K min) so if its a bad motor theres 15K down the drain. plus you would need to modify the sump to run RWD no biggie just another thing.

you would be better i think rebiulding it as then you now it is a fresh motor. get forgies and run more boost.

rebuild it, buy some tools (good tools not supercheap shit) and do it your self, f**k the forgies idea off unless its a track car or uber high powered.

Maybe only $7G - Stagea engine (mine is a GTS4), new flywheel / clutch, and aftermarket ECU. And other ancilliary crap that goes with it.

Ah, that explains it. You included mods too.

Mine was sub 3k but only engine loom and ecu, new timing belt, water pump and z32 afm (as i didn't have an afm), swapped in my existing highflow, manifold, emanage, twin plate did new cooler piping, used existing gearbox. Done.

If i included all the stuff i've done since then 7k probably wont cover it
