I forgot that over here Skylines were used for shopping! well over in Europe we race em' because they seem to like doing that better.As for going back to England with all the other moaning minnies well thats all your fault because we've been brought over here(by your government) to do the hard work that you cant handle,so really thats not my fault! sorry :wave:

You are giving a really good impression of ex pats arent you. I emigrated myself a couple of years back. You are in someone elses back yard, how about a bit of respect for those people until you settle in.

Aside for the mooron who made the generalising whiny comment, I dont blame the other posters. One thing you will learn quickly is you dont drive a car fast on Australian roads and coming on here talking it up is going to make you no mates. Roads here are not like the UK and drivers aren't either.

I have been in your situation when I emigrated but there are a lot of really good people on here who will help you out. Don't put whinging posts up if someone doesnt take a cash offer on something you havent seen. I sold my Lexus late last year and must have had 20 enquiries with people offering up to 10K less than it was up for, why would I even bother replying.

Sort it out man and have some respect for the people here and you will go far.

mmmmm.........probbaly going to get flamed for this. but i dont dissagree with what the OP is doing. i've lived in australia and the UK and yes, the car market is very different.

Cars in Australia are overpriced. Australians are suckers when it comes to car prices. they pay more for cars new than a lot of other markets (the GTO is a famous example) and that filters down to strong 2nd hand prices. A lot of people when selling privately a car do not know its value, do not understand depriciaton and in fear of getting ripped off (or prehaps pride, i'm not sure) they put an inflated price tag on it. In blunt, they're not carsales men but that's what they're trying to do. you're not going to get back close to what you paid for a car if you purchased it a while ago. After unsuccessfully selling the car at their price, they usually give up in frustration and let it go for a lower cash price or they trade it in for even less. in buying and selling, the opposite happens too. when buying a car (or house etc) people get frustrated at all the time and effort shopping and not finding what they want at the price they want so they give up and purchase something thats not suitable or not at their original price ideals. Real Estate agents have a name for this. I think it's respectful to inform the seller straight up that you are not prepaired to pay his asking price and put in an offer straight away. saying your budget straight up is a good way of not wasting anyones time. if someone is selling their R33 for $20K and all they get are offers of $15k, then sooner or later that's what they're going to have to accept or they should take the car off the market.

Skylines are overpriced. Reeeeealy overpriced. I think they're absolutly fantastic cars in original condition but here's the reality.

R32's are upto 17 years old. R33's are not much younger. people are asking $20k for cars of that age and they're nissans. BMW M3's are going cheaper than GTR's of the same age. These cars have no real dealer support from Nissan Australia. These cars are the dregs of Japan, many crashed, many with the odo's fiddled, many rebirthed. the crap that gets let in is unbelievable. the service histories (if present) are dodgy and not in english. A disproportinate number of skylines in australia are stolen, rebirthed or accident repairs. Many have been flogged by their drivers, either on the road or track. Skylines are strongly targeted by police for defects and other things (or so members of this forum say). the insurance on them is extortion because so many are crashed and stolen. Parts are rare and repairs expensive. When you buy a Skyline you really do roll the dice.

the bottom line, is for what you're getting, for what you have to put up with, to what you have to pay for. skylines are not worth the prices that many ask for them. great cars, but i dont think they're worth it. Go buy a mid 90's BMW or a Volvo T5R or something.

Mate... No one seems to understand sales..

There is a cost and there is a return...

If a car yard offers you 10 grand they are going to sell it for 13-14grand to make a profit to pay for all the running costs on their business...

A private seller is always loosing money on their sale. However why should a private seller be 10,000 bucks cheaper than a car yard...?

Common guys do you think business's do stuff for nothing???

Also you cannot compair a BMW to a skyline...

Yes a BMW is nice but it just has nothing on the skyline is terms of power and of course their the eye candy to us all who love them so much...

Im not saying one is better than the other but what im saying is id prefer a skyline any day of the week...

The point is you cannot offer 15 grand on a 20+ car and expect a responce. I would find it rude and I would think its a joke. Remember forums are full of 12 tears olds...

Sample: When i sold my GTR i had a 16 year old kid rock up for a test drive... I said NO straight away... He didnt have a licience and would need his parents permission... He then offered me $14,500 for the car (Adverstised for 42K) as thats all he had at the time... What do you think i said??? You know what, about 4 weeks later the car sold for 42k... Because it was worth every cent...

I question how many cars people have actually bought and sold who are flaming this guy. $13K is not an unreasonable offer for a $15K car. I have bought many cars, always have the cash ready to go and I always make an offer before looking at the car, as I know what I want. Why would a buyer waste their time going and looking at multiple cars if he dosnt know wether the seller will negotiate or not?

What I really hate is the whiners trying to sell claiming the market is dead - its not dead, your prices are usually too high. Selling a car is a matter of pricing it correctly.

no, its not people pricing their cars too high... its a matter of everyone wanting something for nothing these days...

i.e. 15 year old kids coming onto a Skyline Forum, and offering 15k for $25,000 cars... not only is it annoying, coming from the sellers perspective, its f**king insulting.

if i was advertising my car for sale for say, $18k, that is the price i want to sell it for, sure i may be slightly negotiable, but if you came up to me in real life and offered me $10k for it, i'd tell you you're dreaming, to go ask mummy and daddy for some more money, and to f**k off... why should it be any different online?

My mate's favourite comment "if they start talking price before they've even seen the car - instant time waster". How do you even know what price to offer unless you have seen the car? It could look brilliant in photos but be an absolute piece of shit when you see it in person. Engine f**ked, gearbox f**ked, whatever. Making an offer at that time is just not a smart decision from the buyer's perspective either.

Yes, you are the buyer and you have an advantage with a lot of cars to choose from.. but the seller puts a price on it for a reason. He can come down if he wants, but *assuming* he will want to is just being presumptious, if not rude. Even worse still, is buyers getting angry if the seller won't drop their price.

It's worse on Internet forums, because nobody has the testicles to pick up the phone and ask (probably because they know what the answer will be to their lowball offer).. it's easier to send off PM's, emails, or whatever, as there is no personal contact, and hope one seller may, possibly be willing to deviate on the price.

I agree to that to different people it means different things but to me if a buyer starts talking price before looking at the car it shows that they actually have the cash to buy the thing - it would worry me more if there was no mention of price as they probably just want a joy ride. If I make an offer then view the car and it is crap then I will simply withdraw my offer - no cash has been placed down yet.

I also agree with azurra that to offer $10K is ridiculous on an $18K car. $1K discount is very realistic, $2K is fine to ask, $3K is pushing it, above $3K discount is rude. Well thats my GENERAL rules anyway.

price is the first thing you should talk about, you can talk about price on the phone but you cant see the car in person...........if you agree on price, then you should take it to the next step, taking the time to see the car. if it fits a standard worthy of your price it is then purchased. if the standard is well below that advertised, either walk away or come up with another offer of price pointing out that the sellers advertising was not mentioning problems etc.

if you think someone is a time waster because the first thing they talk about is price.......than you'll wiping out a lot of potential buyers and you invite joy riders.

What a mad few days!!!you were right,I was wrong....so Im selling the boat this week (Its in the Trader,tomorrow Thurs $20k) and I went and ordered this little beauty on Saturday from JSA down in VIC! thanks for all the good wishes,catch you at the QLD meets? I'm sure you won't miss me :P nearly forgot to say it's a tad over 15k :D

Nah he didnt mention what price, but Id be a little worried over those black doors and black bonnet.....id estimate the price he paid and say something like 30 - 35K. But lets see what the outcome is, maybe the car is alright after all.

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.  
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
