Hey there guys,

I have an R33 GTS S2 standard ECU. Since I bought the car it's had an aftermarket (non-airbag) steering wheel on the car, though recently the battery went flat in the car and now the airbag light is flashing in my eyes and is rather annoying.

Does anyone know of a way to shut this down? It's obvious there is a way, seeing though for the past 8 months it wasn't flashing. Also, just out of curiousity, does the factory ecu have fuel maps and such that people refer to when discussing aftermarket ecu's and or do you think there is any programming I could have perhaps lost in my ecu since the battery has died, and if so is there any software available to see what is happening in there???

Any help or info would be great...

Cheers !!!

Thats an interesting problem you have there dude. you say you have a r33 gts s2 ecu? first off i would be getting my hands on nissans consult scan tool to pull some codes out of it and see what it is saying. considering the fact that it is now missing the return signal from the steering wheel mounted airbag unit will definately be the reason for the light. my first question would be why has the s/wheel been replaced with a

non airbage unit and how did they turn the light off? i know this isnt alot of help but i'd be a bit worried about because with the light on remember the passenger side airbag will NOT deploy in an accident and to be honest with out the seering wheel there i doubt whether it would go off even with the light off.

as for the ecu, yes it has fuel maps and there is a few resets u can do to ensure good idle such as a Keep Alive Memory relearn and an idle reset,

I'm not sure how the airbag light was disabled... I bought the car with the aftermarket wheel fitted from an importer, so it was complienced with the steering wheel fitted. I have no idea how the setup was, though the light would come on when first starting the car (as you would expect, with the engine light etc) thought after 1 or 2 seconds of the car running, the light would disappear, it was as if they had trick the computer to thinking there air bar was there.

As for the ECU settings... you said there is something like a self learn proceedure? How do I initiate that and whats the story - is there a website or a topic in SAU that gives instuctions... the car is running fine atm, so should I have concerns in reseting the ECU ??? Has anyone done this - should I just let it be???

Cheers...

do a search for

airbag

by user ylwgtr2

he posted up a way to clear the self diag. try this and you should speak with a nissan dealer about the problem, as it could be dangerous (ie: airbags may be disabled)

Common issue when the airbag is disconnected from the power supply. To remove the light you need to reset the signal to the ECU, i think its via resetting the ECU. Talk to NISSAN about who has diag tools.

In the meantime your airbag doesnt work so drive safely

i would dare say that the light was turned off with a resistor or a simulator placed into the wiring at the steering wheel connection to the airbag harness. i would say that with the new batery connected the voltage/resistance seen at the control unit has slipped outside of preset parameters. how and why i dont know.......................
