I've heard stock R33 turbos are good for about 170rwkw. Any more and you sacrifice longevity at a rapid rate.

A high flow will always be a compromise for more power by losing bottom end response. You're modifying an existing design. You will get the best of both worlds by going for a new turbo - turbine technology is continuously evolving.

I have a friend with a GT-RS turbo and loving it.. he wanted good midrange and response for track work so it's not laggy.. didn't care about outright power. Turns out he's making 270rwkw anyway hahahaha.

Mate you heard wrong. My car is stock other than turbo back exhuast, runnning 8-9psi it made 175rwkw. I have yet to put PFC, FMIC and boost controller on. Stock turbos are good for 12psi as Paul said, making upto 200-210rwkw with a good tune.

What sorta high flow is it? How well is the boost build mapping area tuned?

My GCG Ball Bearing high flow made 1 bar at 2,750 rpm in 4th gear

It has more power EVERYWHERE than standard, that's from idle to redline.

Choose the right high flow and then (more importantly) properly tune the whole RPM band. Not just the rpm around where it make max power.

It was bought change over through AVO turbo's in Melbourne an it cost $1450 (with c/o) about 2.5 years ago, thats about all I can tell you about the hi-flow I have. It makes good power/boost btw 3500-4500rpm an pretty much nothing below. I have a microtech lts-12 ECU tuned by Daltons Automotive, might look into another tuner to have a look at it, or might consider another turbo change, but dont want to spend big bucks on another turbo ($1500 is big buck to me).

as for my friend in with the stock turbo, its gonna cost $600 to reco the standard turbo or $300 for a secondhand one from the wreckers. I think he's gonna go with the secondhand one for the time being, very little cash outlay to get him by for the time being.
