Hi guys - just posted this on the skyline section but thought I'd post the link here as well just if anyone has any thoughts.

Basically I have 2 brothers who are ford fanatics telling me their fords are way more reliable than my stagea and that ford engines are better and more reliable than the rb25's etc. because of the number of fords out there with over 300,000 or 400,000 km's on the clock and still going.

Just wanted to know if anyone knows of skylines or stageas lasting this long??

cheers.

There is a late model Stagea for sale on Trademe in NZ that has done 191,000 kms. It has the VQ25DET.

I know of someone who bought a Stagea with about 100,000 kms and drove it until about 250,000. The engine was fine, just a dead turbo.

Most Nissan engines are overbuilt, and seem to last a long time.

It depends how you drive and maintain your Nissan. When I complained to Subaru about my ex Forester shagging SIX stes of rear wheel bearings in

125K, and my R30 still had the originals at 600K, they complained that Nissans are "bullet proof", and it was unfair to compare a Subaru to a Nissan.

I drove the Subaru quite sedately, (i.e. it was a pretty gutless auto) but the R30 I really flogged. The engine is worn out now, not broken, and hopefully I get another L24E to rebuild and fit.

If Stageasare built HALF as good as an R30, it should last 300k as a NORMAL

vehicle, while being capable of giving goosebumps from time to time.

First of all do you know what "FORD" means? First On The Rubbish Dump/ Tell your 2 bros that. Me personally think about Fors are the shitties car manufacturer i ever seen. The only Fors im gonnna buy is the GT40.

In terms of reliability have to agree with ^^yosyagea. It depends how you drive it Eg wamr your engine before you floor it, change engine oil on time, uses Mobil 1 :pirate: , ETC. Keep the engine's radiotor clean and dont do mods like Cruiseliner you should be fine apart from gaskets the needs to be replaced late on. Tell your 2 bros i said that that We can take on FOrd GTP any time!!! in a tiwsted and wet road of course dont tell them that though :D

I dunno, some of the newer FPV's can bloody go and stop and turn........

But yeah, I could clock 100,000kms over easy, jack the car up and leave it in 1st at idle, coulpe of months later, hey presto, several hundred thousand kms on it. Or I could do the same but jam the throttle open to achieve the same result.

Which do you think would last longer, an engine sitting at idle for 250,000 kms or one bouncing off the rpm limiter for 250,000 kms?

the one stay at 2,300rpm will last better

Yeah I agree with most of the above.

Personally I've driven a few different fords, mostly wagons and I've gotta say they are a piece of crap.

The handling is crap.

The styling is crap (personal opinion).

The interiors are basic...and crap.

The performance (excepting FPV/GTP etc.) is crap.

The suspension is waaaaay too soft, making it feel all floaty, especially at 100km/h.

Really all I wanted to compare was the reliability - in terms of how long they last - ignoring how much work has been done to them in the meantime, without actually rebuilding or replacing the entire engine. I know for certain that very very few fords make it to 300,000 without some serious trouble along the way.

I reckon if you leave the ol' RB engines stock, they'll be pretty much trouble-free for a long time.

And if the ford guys think 240kw for the XR6T is good, how's about 206kw for the 3.5L na VQ35DE? I stand by Nissan engines as being at the front of technology and reliability all the way.

The Found On Rubbish Dumps etc. slogans have been around for a looong time. And trust me, there's nothing you can say to a Ford lover to make them change their mind about Fords. I just wanted some more assurance with my car so next time they try telling me it wont last much past 200,000 kms I'll be able to smile and tell them that when it clicks past 300,000 i'll take a photo and send it to them.

good old jap reliability my lowlux has 470000 on the clock and im booked in for fri to get a head job.the petrol has 270000 on it and just had a new set welch plugs and head job.but thats all apart from the usual bolt on stuff givin up the ghost.

Man you should have no probs with any of the rbs if they have had there oil changes and normal maintenance.

My old r32 rb20det had over 180,000kms, it had regular oil changes and got regular thrashings on track days, and was driven like it was designed to be. Still ran sweet, motor idle was sweet, and was still on stock turbo too. It wasn't over boosted, just sat on 10psi with cat back exhaust.

Nissan engines seem to last and last. They seem to handle abuse quite well.

I once saw a datsun 200b at some Cleveland hotrod car show in Brisi, and they had an old subaru, they were trying to blow them, doing lap after lap. They took out the water out of both then caned them and subaru blew up, and datsun was still going, they then dropped the datsun's oil and it still kept going. In the end they gave up and drove it off the track.

I think they were trying to prove that jap engines were crap. If they wanted a really big bang they should have run one of their dodgy aussie/yankee v8s!

    • Anyone want to make me an offer to take my v36/g37 3.7l manual coupe in full? Off memory it was low 100k km but the battery is flat so can't tell right now. What's wrong. I had engine problem's that led to a nice clunk. It made it home but it wasn't pretty for the last few kms. Happened under revs. Sounds like bottom end.. never got around to fully checking or fixing it so the car has sat still and unregistered for a few years. Minor bump in front end set the pedestrian protection under bonnet airbag off and that was meant to be repaired, but while waiting for the repair (parts to come) I got the engine problem. The rest of the car is in decent condition. All drive line is good. All interior is good. Leather interior. Wheels in good condition and decent tyres although the ps4s are likely a little too old now it's sat still. Colour of the car is pewter off memory, the dark grey colour. In Camden NSW. Would need a tray back pickup.

    • I started with the above in my head too, and I might be reading / thinking about what they want wrong, which is why I complicated it a bit further. Purpose I'm seeing is for the corner indicator to be on with headlights, and then if the indicator turns on it can still flash. The relay part above I can see working as required, except in the case of headlight is on, and indicator is on. The change over relay you've wired in would get signal from the indicator, and as it flashes would give power to the globe from the indicator, but as it flashes off, power comes from the headlight, which would cause the indicator to be constantly on when headlight is on, even while indicator change over is flashing. That is unless we don't care if it flashes or not if the headlight is on? I guess that's an OP clarification.
    • HI, Ive got an r34 gtt sedan A/T. The instrument cluster went out and I replaced it with another A/T everything visually looks the same and all the gauges work now with the exception of the speedometer and odometer. The speedo will stay pinned at zero until I'm going about 55kmh and then it'll say Im going about 5kmh. my odometer seems to be tracking at about a 1/10 of what it should. If I go 1km it'll say I've only gone 0.01. Appreciate any and all help. Ive tried searching through the forums reddit and a local fb group. The only info I think I've found is that some cars didnt come equipped with TCS (mind is) and the clusters may be different between those? I've also installed a brand new VSS and no joy obviously. TIA.
    • what speedo healer did you use?
