My reverse light has started to flicker on and off when in reverse (R33 5 speed manual) unless the gear lever is held to the left.

Does anyone know if there is a contact switch or something external to the gear box that I can adjust so that the reverse light remains constantly on when in reverse? or is the switch inside the box and I will need it professionally repaired?

Cheers

The reverse light switch screws into the drivers side of the gearbox and by the sound of it yours has worn out.

There are two switches on the box . The other is the neutral switch.

They cost about $45 from nissan.

They are hard to get at as they are towards the top of the box so you may find you need a special spanner.

It should only take a mechanic a few minutes to fit.

+1

mine's doing this too, I haven't had the time to get a new one from nissan and fix it.

A friend tells me the gearbox is too close to the underbody to get the reversing plug all the way out, if that's the case you'll have to undo the gearbox crossmember bolts and push the gearbox to the side when unscrewing the reversing switch.

Guys, mine started doing this a few months ago, makes it very annoying to reverse park at night

To get to the switches do i need to remove the plastic surround on the gear stick? or is it under the car?

Did you get this fixed and is there any other things to look for?

Indeed ;o)

You don't need to remove the boot or anything from the shifter. It's clearly visible from under the car... just when you start unscrewing it, the end hits part of the underbody, so you MAY need to shift the whole box to the passenger side. If not, it's a simple in-out affair.

Get your mechanic to do it next time you get a service, or on your rego inspection.

Hi there, I hope someone can help. The part of the loom that connects to the reverse and neutral switches on my R32 GTS4 has been ripped out (one of those things). I can't see where these are meant to connect to; the best I can see is a bit of the loom that passes by the alternator but I can't be sure that this is it as these wires don't seem to activate my reverse lights. Any help would be great - I have a thread going about this here. Thank, Ben
