Hi,

Im am curious to know the difference in the r33 gearbox and the vl turbo 5speed gearbox....

have they got the same power rating....I know the vl turbo box would be worst for wear as its older though.

Are they exactly the same, as in you could replace your r33 box for one.. I have an auto at the moment and considering changing to manual and i have noticed the vl turbo gboxs going alot cheaper..

Thank in advance for your replys..

Cheers

The VL boxes are going cheaper because of thier age.

And simply, i wouldnt go near one as they are virtually 20 years old as opposed to an R33 box of around 10years.

There are lots not that are breaking due to the extra wear and tear.

If your doing a conversion, definately pay the $$$ for the R33 box. Its work the money in the long run as if the VL box dies, replacement cost is more than the R33 would have been initially

the vlturbo is getting old.

single syncros,f**ked ratios, pretty oldschool and im pretty sure they use the external shifter like a z32

nope vlt use normal r33 type shifter. ive used z32 and its 1000 times smoother than vlt boxes. vlt boxes are like 4wd patrol boxes the way they shift rough and the space between gears are too far apart.

ive never used a r33 box so i cant comment.

    • I thought about ditching it but I was worried my bonnet would sound like a 90's Swift GTi sub-filled boot.
    • Have you found that you have to tighten your alternator belt once in a while? Mine has started to squeal again after the mechanic tightened it roughly a year ago and the engine starts up slow if I don't start it every day (think the starter motor is going out). It used to be if I don't drive it once a week I'd get a quick squeal on the belt but now it's every day or every other day. I might make a post of the start up sound.
    • I spent the entire of the long weekend going through my garage and I'm now, after 3.5yrs in this house, able to fit a car in. The garage is quite long and the back half has a high enough ceiling for a 2 post lift but it's going to just take too much space and I don't think I'd be able to get around the car if it was in the air. So, in comes the quick lift. It looks perfect. High enough to do most things, I reckon even getting a gearbox out would be doable.  Does anybody here have one? They're fairly cheap (~$3k) considering...  https://www.dtmtrading.com.au/product/quick-lift-portable-vehicle-hoist-3500-kg-worksafe-approved/ I'm also a bit of a non risk taker so I'd probably still use stands when under!
    • Well now we all see it! I did the same. Then cut it out. Then melted half of it. Then discarded it entirely. So... you're in good company.
    • I just replaced the god awful, sagging, crunchy bonnet insulation. It's something nobody but I see but it's been at me for a while.
