Hi all , I noticed a string asking all the Stagea punters what exhaust system they use and their thoughts of its performance enhancements and noise output . I'd like to hear what the R33GTS25T mob are using and their views on noise and reduced exhaust restriction . Full systems , cat backs , cats lets hear it .

Cheers A .

i used a 3" exhaust with 2 mufflers and a gtr cat to get my noise down to pass the db limit...other than that i used a 4" all the way through which i luv, obviously not somethin ur after though hehe

ben...

Although mine is a 32 rb20det my car came with a trust exhaust from cat back, two mufflers and it is nice and quiet on the street and when I open it up it sounds fantastic :P

Couldnt tell you about the actual difference from stock, but I would guess it would have to be better...

Thanks fellas , it seems most systems are around the 3" to 3.5" and the metal core cats seem to have the least restriction of all . I'm mainly interested in mild steel (titanium nice but expensive) and dont need the water main sized pretend bit out the back . Need function rather than bling .

I remember reading ages ago that Fujitsubo made good quiet exhausts , anyone running one of theirs ?

Cheers A .

Edit : An R33 I looked at recently had a muffler just in front of the axle and split into two smaller pipes between here and the last muffler (single outlet) . I was told this shuts the noise up a bit but what about flow ? Any idea what type it could have been , was a cat back .

Buy AlexCims old Fujitsubo exhaust (see stagea classifieds) - cut out the dinged part and it'd fit perfectly on a R32/33/34. Stagea exhausts seem to be around 20cm longer than Skylines.

disco

UAS has played extensively with my neo powered stagea, with and without 3" exhaust including bellmouth dump pipe, SS split dump, +/- straight thru mid-muffler, +/- rear muffler.

calling them now while it is fresh in their minds might be worthwhile.

this is a very quiet system at idle and on road.

Pics would be nice if possible , does the +/- mean centre and offset ?

My previous experiences lead me to believe that mufflers with the greatest "can" volume stand the best chance of doing their job . Ones with direct perforated tubes should have the least resistance to flow . In the cave I have a rather long stainless Hitech muffler that is deep as well , left over from FJT days - ears still ringing .

I'm not yet very familiar with the underside of an R33 but at a glance there's a bit of room . I sort of visualise a large can muffler in front of the axle and a cat (metalic core Catco sounds the ticket) in the std spot . There will be one at the rear though with not much pipe beyond the back of it one wonders if it does a lot in 3 or 3.5" tube size .

As for the engine pipe I have no idea , the CAI one looks good but not sure which turbo so I guess the std one with the std turbo for starters . Have seen impressive performance through the std engine pipes with basically bolt ons and std turbo .

Just out of curiosity how good are std R33 or 34 GTR systems after the cat ?

sorry disco, to clarify the +/- i mean they have run the car with and without the cat back exhaust, they changed dump pipes, they changed from catco honeycomb cat to catco metal cat. just about all the permutations that you can think of. the type of muffler etc i can't answer as precisely as JP at UAS.

You want good flow from the turbo with a split dump that rejions at the elbow and a stainless biscuit cat.

Where the noise is taken care of is in the cet-back section. I made my own system up and with a hot-dog muffler and rear steel wound ( not packed - and yes there is a difference) canon it gave a really growly note but was so drowny on deceleration that it gave me a headache driving it home. Swapped the hot-dog for a striaght through side by side resonator and it has a perfect note. I hate unnessarily loud exhausts.

My suggestions - Get full stainless. I used mild painted and it's already rusting

- Buy the front pipe and stainless biscuit cat from batmobile (GB on this forum)

- Have the cat back made up for maximum $400 and your laughing!

;) Something close to my heart. No point in overtaking if they think your revving hard to do it.

I have a Fujitsubo muffler with a large body and 3" inlet and outlet in stainless. Then in front of the diff an oval shaped resonator approx. 10" long. Then a 12" hotdog before a hi-flow cat. Then a split stainless dump pipe from the turbo.I doubt it is much noisier than the standard system and even when I rev it out is still very quiet.Currently pumping out 220rwkw.

I think the reason the muffler works so well is because it has two 2" pipes inside it instead of the usual 3" single. Also, there was some droning and at my age I couldn`t tolerate it so then I put the hotdog on and zero droning, and I mean zero.

The biggest noise came from the split dump so wrapped it up in thermo tape back to the cat and much better.Yes, I know it will rust it quicker butt I`ll live with it.

Hi there Disco,

I've had drone problems since day one of owning my '33. I bought it with a dump, hiflow cat and stupidly big rear muffler.

Since then I've replaced the cat with a 4'' magic cat, and put the longest 3'' muffler I could get between the cat and rear muffler. It was fine for a few days, then when I installed my hks 2835 kit the drone came back!

So beware when changing turbos fellas.

Now I'm looking for a good quality big muffler for the rear as there's no other options. R33's really don't have much room under there. I hate the drone @ 100 k's - it's really bad with a car full of people. Goto 120 and it goes away.

Cheers

I have just been thru all this for my Stagea

Fujitsubo Legaris R 87DB

Trust Power Extreme II 95-96DB

Apexi Silent 92DB

Legal is 92DB

What I have noticed is any cat back exhaust that is 92db or under, has a large volume, oval shaped rear muffler and a front resinator, and not a cannon style rear muffler.

i have a custom exhaust

3" mandrel-bent mild steel

1 * x-force 3" cat

1 * 3" large resonator (straight through)

1 * 3" cannon muffler (stright through)

very quiet and no drone at all

noise at WOT and power exceptional

plus, its custom for my car :woot: no scraping on the ground...

I have a HKS super dragger (car back) and it is reasonbly quiet, well a lot quieter than any other skylines ive heard with similar mods. ICE Performance have the same exhaust on there supra and it makes over 500rwkw so it must flow well too.

cheers

I have a trust pe2 with batmbls cat and front/dump pipe. Very quiet, and the car is still very responsive. Has a nice rumble when going through a tunnel (or under an overpass) - check the link to see what it looks like - though I couldnt get a pic of underneath the car....

Yes I looked into that Trust PE2 yesterday . I think more can area such as a large oval would fit at the back so maybe some gain here . If the rear steer rack is replaced by the lock bar does it fee up any more space in this area ? Also would "ovalizing" the pipe under the drive shaft mean it could fit a bit higher from terra firma ? That middle muffler looks like a double offset through one side of the oval can , what things under the floor pan get in the way towards the nearside ?

Cheers A .

this trust PE2 sounds like a nice buy, just wondering has anyone herd anything about Lukey mufflers? Where i live (Kalgoorlie... middle of desert) theres not much exhaust places to choose from, this place i went to offered to do me a catback system with a lukey muffler and a hotdog for 500 bucks. Sounds like a good deal but im not sure how good these mufflers are. I have searched up some info bout the brand, seems alrite...
