Hi,

I've just installed a new head unit in my car (I've taken photos and documented the whole procedure) and I was wondering what the general consensus is with connecting cut wires?

I've always stripped, tinned and connected using terminal blocks, are terminal blocks OK or are there problems associated with using these? I can't stand those little splicing clip things.

Thanks,

-Greg.

Terminal blocks work fine for me, if you are just connecting two wires together to make one.

Anytime I have to splice a wire I just cut away the plastic, wrap the new wire around the old and solder together, and treat with electrical tape. Easier to take the new wire off if need be, and takes up less space

always solder

then wrap in elec tape or u can get this heat shrink stuff that comes in tubes which you cut to size and slide on before you join...then you just slide it back up over the join and heat it with a lighter untill it shrinks to cover it...looks very neat

the reason i say solder, is that if you solder the wires properly, and later you have a problem...you know its not the wiring(joins) and that will save you time finding the real problem:D

Yep, I reckon heatshrink is the go. U can buy it from Dick Smiths in various colours. From memory is a few bucks for about a metre or so.
