my s2 33 came with a double din alpine deck that doesnt work so im getting a single din head unit to replace it, some 6x9's and an amp for them.

does anyone know if you can mount 6x9's on the stock parcel shelf with some spacers (jaycar $20) or will they not fit anyway? OR will it just sound like shit?

even better does anyone on here install this shit? if you do i will pay you for it!!

what to do what to do........

any help would be great!

heres a quote from any strathfield in aus dude -

88 for your head unit, plus $20 for a din pocket spacer.

6x9s are $77 to fit. Plus $20 If you need spacers.

an amp running two channels i THINK is about $60.

so $225. Far bit, but it ALL gets a lifetime warranty.

And yes, i work there.

Haha i install them, in my workshop at home, for about half that, but its a fair trip.

if you get spacers, get MDF or f'glass. NOT the plastic DNA or aerpro. Parcel trays are a if done properly. They can be easily messed up though - especially 6x9s, and even more so if they are amp'd. The more solid you can mount your speakers, the better they'll sound. The idea of a speaker is for it to stay solid, and just the diaphragm move. Also make sure there are no gaps around the base, imperative to keep them pretty sealed, will give you deaper bass and a clearer sound all round.

That lifetime warranty strathfield offer is a must.

THE WORK IS SO BAD YOU WILL NEED IT!

oh, and as for working there and doing jobs on the side, i am fairly sure under their company policy you will get sacked when they find out. They got rid of Lorenze and the other cronies, dont think you are immune.

thorpe84,

Tell me what part of Melbourne you are in and I will refer you to a installer, not a strathfield butcher!

I dont work at strathfield, and I'm no law buff, but asif they can sack you for having an extra job, no matter what it is.. maybe a teacher being a prostitute  but doin some car installs on the side.. bs!!

Believe me they can. As part of the employment agreement they get their low paid workers to sign it states they must not have outside employment.

Over the years many employee's have had their employment terminated for outside employment.Technically they can not write this as a reason on the termination notice. They write breech of company policy. Same as when they catch someone for stealing.

Either way, with Strathfield this is a FACT.

true enough i wont argue that, its in the employment policy. But i dont WORK for anyone else. and i dont exactly solicit it at work, to customers.

And its a bit rough to assume that everyone that installs under strathfield roof is dodgy, guys. Ive seen northfield cars get defects for wiring on alarms and stereos, and yes ive seen it done with some strathfield cars too, but i can assure you that any job i do, or the installer where i am does, is a decent job.

haha yeah mate. i mean i definitely understand that there are grounds to base that on, but there are some of us that do take pride in our work, man. I can stand doing a half-assed effort, cos i know id be pissed if someone did it on MY car.

Youll probably find that people that do shitty work on cars, be it install, mechanical, body work, DONT have a car of their own they take pride in owning.

Bit offensive to say i do shit half-assed work just cos - for now - i operate under strathfields label.

shit i need help then!! as for the spacers they are plastic, phuck them il go for something else, maybe the place where i get it done will have some decent ones,

one more question, how much do decent cables cost seeing the battery is in the back does it make a difference?

FRX,

im from doncaster/melbourne

If you haven't done it before, and you don't want to risk doing it this time, look for someone reputable and who is a specialist (like Chris) in your area to do the install.

You might pay more money, but you'll get a more professional opinion on what will sound right, and what you should use. (e.g: mdf rings/pods instead of plastic ones)

Battery cables should be quite thick, so get an auto sparky to replace the stockers with 4-guage or something. New terminal clamps are a good idea too.

EXACTLY!

I used to work for theis company and believe me they would do just that with out batting an eyelid. likewise for their workers comp policy but thats a different story.

FRX,

don't get me started on EITHER company for alarms.

do you understand what i mean? you cant slander a a whole nationwide company, and every single employee, for a dodgy job done on your car.

You cant say that i do shit work, just cos i work for the same company... does thought sound stupid to you??? does to me...

most of the good installers have either left strathfield of their own accord or been "performance managed" out of the business due to them being expensive.

read what you want into that...

you dont need crappy spacers to fit 6x9s. just make sure you do your measurements and make sure the basket of the speakers have clearance with the parcel shelf so you do not need to cut them. any audio installer should be able to arrange that for you.
