Drift Practice - Calder - Wed 30 August

Competitors: $90

Spectators: $20

Gates open: 5:00pm, track opens 6:00pm.

Requirements:

Driver - approved helmet, non-flammable clothing, flat enclosed shoes

Car - roadworthy, safe/working seatbelts, etc

Beginners welcome and encouraged to attend.

DRIFT PRACTICE 30TH AUGUST 2006

As a result of direct competitors’ input from those that attended the June Drift Practice; the next practice night to be held on the 30th August will include drifting in pairs and whenever possible an earlier release of the next pair or single from the start line.

FLAGS:

YELLOW FLAG: Will be waved or shown to warn drivers of a hazard ahead or in the area of that yellow flag, there is not to be any DRIFTING/SLIDING or OVERTAKING on the next corner after the yellow flag was shown.

RED FLAG/FLASHING RED LIGHTS: Drivers must stop immediately where they are on the track and await further instructions from an official.

BLACK FLAG: Driver to leave circuit and report to the meeting director.

LICENCES: An AASA licence is required for drift practice. $45 for a 12 month licence, available from Calder Park 03 9217 8800 or www.calderparkmotorsport.com.au .

It goes pretty late. About 11 or so? I've never stayed till the end.

How many runs depends on how many people go. Last time I was there for like 2 or so hours and each driver would have had about 5-6 runs at the corners. roughly. It was really slow last time and I think they realised that it needed to be improved. I'm going to watch at least one more time to see if it's worth it before I enter. Last time I don't think it would've been.

And yes, same course every time. Links 2 smaller corners and one big one.

I've only managed to get to one drift practice day... but that was pretty good (vicdrift).

So two weeks, and I hope to read some reviews... perhaps I'll be adding to the queue next time.

I've only managed to get to one drift practice day... but that was pretty good (vicdrift).

So two weeks, and I hope to read some reviews... perhaps I'll be adding to the queue next time.

You get more than 5-6 runs. That's roughly how many runs I saw each car do in the 2 hours I was there.

But yeah I know what you mean...

Yeah Mate. I'm pretty sure I will. Wanna cruise there? You know where I live.

how much sorta damage toll would this do to your car? obviously pushing it too the limit alot..

Depends on your driving ability and how well set up your car is? Have you got a locked diff, good clutch, good suspension, good front tyres, done a service recently? You could put it into a wall!

I think what Adam Newton said at our Drift for Dummies last month sums it up nicely. Cars hate to drift. It's hard on all mechanical components. I'd recommend becoming a member of SAU and doing a drift for dummies day on a skidpan before heading to Calder since they don't have a beginners course anymore.

yep totally understand, ive been doing it on some private roads etc, learning from someone who used to do at calder.. but never asked that question. still might head in for the night, should be fun.. sucks about the price but i guess drifting is expensive.

Private roads... must have a big driveway... :laugh:

Yes... motorsport is expensive... :rofl:
