R33 Side Skirts

Have been lookin at a few R33 series II's latley, and have noticed a subtle difference in the side skirts of some of these cars, this was hard to notice as the rest of the car was stock (i.e. front and rear bar) but the sides on some were chunkier than others, as shown with the 2 pics. Does anyone know of this chunkier style side skirt is an add on, on top of the slimmer stock side? or is it a replacement skirt? Just wondering as I am not sure which I want to have, and also incase I decide to fit one later. Any comments appreciated!

ones got the side skirt option, the other doesnt... that what i reckon anyhoo as it was an option from nissan.
