Good work mate.

Just 2 little things.

I like your jar opening mats for the filter!! LOL!! I gave up on wrenchs for the oil filter a while ago, i use a small sheet of sand paper and grip it by hand.

Also, ive got the same relocater oil filter kit in my GTR i think. One thing that makes changeing the oil filter less messy, is if you mount it just passed horizontal with the thread end pointing up slightley. Less mess and far less drips when you come to change it. With it how you've got the filter angled, you'll get a nice stream of oil run outta the filter and go everywhere when you come to change it.

Might not work for you.

Good luck.

Cheers.

mine it mounted that way. no mess. one of 2 things happen:

if the filter doesnt stop it draining, then it will slowly drain back into the lines whilst the engine is off, so when you pull it off the majority of that oil is gone.

if it does stop draining, then nothing will come out when you take it off.

mine is mounted near vertical (not quite vertical) and have no mess problems.

Thanks for your comments mazgtr :) I was keen on an angle for the filter but was restricted by length of hose (as it was a used kit) and available real estate in the engine bay (as the strut brace has a master cylinder stopper). I've since had to remove the new filter and there was only the tiniest spillage, so I'm a happy boy.

Anyway, I have just reassembled everything for the THIRD time. After I pulled it all off and fitted the rubber gasket I had too much teflon tape on a fitting and didn't tighten a hose enough...

30sec running and ~1.0L of 10W40 all over the floor... sorry landlord :)

This time I removed the teflon tape from all fittings I was hand tightening. I'm sure other DIYers can relate to that sphincter clenching moment just before you start the engine... "have I done up everything" "did I leave a spanner in the fan belt" etc etc.

Ok I started it and away we went. I ran it for around five minutes and there was no evidence of any leak :O Tomorrow we are going to work together  and I'll deem the job complete tomorrow night if it is all still good.
