i'd like to argue against your last paragraph!

we actually do meet at least once a week! we all met through these forums and most of us are friends outside the forum.. so our meets don't even require the whorethread/sau to be organised anymore! there are also some events discussed in the thread and organised. so please stop making assumptions when you've obviously only read a few posts!

As for living in the hills area!? i beg to differ!!! we have people in the hills... south.. QLD! everyone and anyone is welcome! you seem intent on making it a conspiricy against you.. please realise it is not, and is only a quest to remove some stickies.

What is your objection to this? you're all subscribed to the thread! you all claim that its active! whats the harm in just leaving it in the normal non-stickied section, and posting from there?

just my 2c

My current addition, The Eastern suburbs thread has made me aware of local skylines, more than i knew about... it has also meant that Corrine is organising a dinner in the near future. didnt happen untill the thread became active......

just a recent observation

I have only been in the whore thread a bit but it is completely insane, and the people there seem to know each other and live around the hills region. Except that thread goes under a different title and doesnt seem to give 2 hoots about meet ups and socialising... yet the powers that be want to crack down on the others? Come on.

we all know eachother because we started talking to eachother on the forum. hmm, 3 people from there live in the "hills district". Myself and one other person are closer to the Blue Mountains, also people from Queensland, WA, etc..And what exactly are you trying to say about Meet Ups and Socialising.. If you say we dont do it, thats not true. I've organised cruises, Mona has organnised cruises, Steve (N1 GTR) has organised one of the bigest cruises I have been a part of...

"I have only been in the whore thread a bit" oh wow!! you have been in there a "bit" so you must know everything that goes on in that thread, and what ever person is like!!

Here, have a cookie :D .

No it would not be easier unless we went around leaving voicemails. And the ctown thread has worked quite well for us so far. But i guess if people are on a powertrip and want to feel all high and mighty what can we do about it?

cry.gif

hahaha... 100% sam!! and as for all the having to leave voicemail comments.. half the time our organisations happen on msn... missed calls and messages!! didn't realise a forum was designed to take away normal human interaction!!

i understand where you're coming from xizor... but your non skyline friends.. i guess you email them or soomething when you want to meet up? I can understand using this forum to initially meet people in your area (via a non stickied thread) but i can't understand using this forum for future interactions!

1. Area threads got stickied in the first place because it was annoying have more than one about the same place/thing running at any one point in time.

2. They have since multiplied and are taking up too much space on the first page of the NSW section.

Options:

1. Leave it as is - annoying because of 2 above.

2. Unsticky them - new ones will get created as soon as the one from that area gets pushed off the first page, see 1 above.

3. Delete them - I personally wouldn't care but some people seem to like them and people who never saw this thread would still create new ones meaning more moderation/rules necessary.

4. Create a subforum for them - gets them out of the way for those who are annoyed by them (ie you just ignore that section of the forum); Doesn't hurt the people who use them.

5. Force them into the Events section - I am personally against this because the 'real' events (eg, track days etc.) will get lost in the mire. All this is doing is moving the mess from NSW to Events. I guess I could sticky the 'real' events.

There is a rising anti-whore sentiment on this forum. Whether SAU allows it or not is a policy decision for Prank and the other Admins.

Those who have suggested that the single whore thread be used to do what the area threads do are dreaming. It's completely impractical due the sheer volume of posts in that thread. I note that a number of the people suggesting this are not unfamiliar with the whore thread. Have a think about it. Do I really have to spell out exactly why?

The concept of separate threads has been labeled divisive. I can't see it. The people in them post in other areas too. Old school SAU'ers will remember the Westside/Northside days (just before my time too actually). It was a friendly rivalry, no harm in it at all.

MY conclusion; I think option 4 above keeps the most amount of people happy. I was expecting about 20 people to vote in this poll and about 5 to post. Sorry about the shitfight. I obviously tapped a nerve.

Moanie and Sl!m, thank you for responding to my poke of the whore thread in exactly the fashion i had hoped. Those responses and the justification of thread itself should be more than enough basis that the precident has been set and that there is nothing wrong in the least with the ctown thread or the eastern suburbs thread etc.

As for non skyline friends, when it comes to cars and socialising in that sort of nature, they are just normal long term friends. I would hardly call MSN normal human interaction, and i have already explain the forums usefullness so it does not need covering again.

As it was so irrelevently pointed out, i've only been registered here since the end of last year, and had my car for even less time. Clearly you long term dwellers have well established relationships and ongoings and live much closer to central suburban sydney. We have not and do not fall into this catergory, and i think its a bit rude and arrogant to deny us said opprtunity by a method thats clearly working very well. As far as i recall the ctown thread has only been active a number of weeks, yet it is almost entirely responsible for myself and others being able to meet and socialise with other local SAU members on a regular basis.

I have only argued that the threads do not be deleted. Thats all. Absolutely nothing else. Anything else is other peoples suggestions or blind flaming, and im perfectly happy to entertain such keyboard hero's (Nice self portrait Sl!m. :D) if it keeps the threads active.

hahahaha.. dude!! they are NOT proposing that the threads be deleted!! just be removed under a subforum (off sticky), very like the one we have for events!! why do you insist on thinking that everyone wants it deleted?

And as for the whore thread... its a thread thats been around for about 3 years, if not longer... there has been a constant run of people through it.. and there are new people posting in there all the time!! It is not a specific region thread, just a general chatter, get to know people thread! majority of people on there you'd only see at the monthy dinners, maybe! a few have created their own groups within that thread!

I understand all your points for maintaining the regional threads, and have nothing against you keeping them! I would just prefer they move into a subforum!

imho!

How does the rest of the Campbelltown Thread feel towards this...

I dont think it really matters where the thread is, stickied or not. The ctown thread has had a large growth since it started and i think that where ever it is, it will be posted in quite reguarly. So it will continue to be bumped to the top of the list. I cant seem to see problem that you some of you guys are fusing about?

Moanie, i know this thread is not proposing it be deleted, but thats what some people have been saying. That such threads basically serve no purpose and thus should be ended. And that is what i've been arguing against. It would be a terrible shame. I thought that was pretty obvious because its exactly what i have been saying.

I've not ever said i wanted sub sections, forum segmentation, change in structure, or anything of that nature. Not at all. Quite frankly i dont give a toss, i just want the threads alive. Yet im getting those sort of remarks directed at me? That is entirely other people, not me. I guess some people are either confused or the forum "elite" are bored and want to flame something. Regardless, its wrong, anyone paying any attention will know im only concerned that the threads stay alive. Especially seeing as a few people are saying similiar ones for different areas have magically gone AWOL.

How does the rest of the Campbelltown Thread feel towards this...

I use the Campbelltown Thread alot. I'd say 80% of the time im on SAU.

Other times im either looking in the For Sale section, the General NSW section, or i glimps at the Events section for anything that would fit into my schedual.

Since the Campbelltown thread has been up, my interactions in the forum(s) and post counts has increase dramatically. I have made new friends in here that share the same interest and passion as i do.

Im not saying that i will only post in the Campbelltown thread and not post in the general NSW area itself. But

when i first came in here it was very hard and very intimidating for me (and maybe not just me) to actually start posting because it seemed like all you 'veterans' of SAU were very good friends. I felt like the i was the new kid in school and everyone already had friends. And before you start the flaming, yes - we are not kids, i know. But that does not stop people from feeling like an ousider when they come into a place where the existing ppl have well established relationships with each other.

Most of you are objecting against the sub-forums because you are scared/threatened that this will possibly divide SAU. But why should SAU be divided if this community is so strong? I dont see this happening (but then again i am only new here so this comment is worth zip  )

I also see that it is the responsibily of the indivual himslef/herself to get to know the commuity and get involved in the events. But it would be better if we provided a smaller section for them to get to know ppl from their area and arrange small meetups now and again.

What im trying to say is, imagine your the new kid in primary school again. You dont know anyone at all. Would you prefer to be put in one huge class where the whole of the school is in, or would you like to be put in your own little class where ppl of your own age and of your own interest talk and get along (power rangers, barbie and Hi5 instead of Girls, sports and computers).

I think these sub-forums are a great idea. It gives you somewhere to start. At least it wont end up being, you either jump in the deep end and start trying to post and get along with everyone, or you stay quiet and eventually leave the forums because you felt like a total stranger.

Maybe all this will lead to goo things like Area/Thread Vs Area/Thread track battles or time trials or Dyno days.

There can be a SAU trophy that will be kept for 3 months by the winning area before it will be up for grabs again at the next battle.

Theres no harm in Skyline rivalry since there doesnt seem to be other interests/challenges from other forums or because of hostilities from other forums.

okies cool! as long as you know i'm not angling to get your thread shut down :D and its not just your thread, all those threads would be better served in a sub forum, and it keeps the main page for sau nsw clean :)

and i'd say ignore those saying to shut it down! just listen to what the mods have to say

prob been said before,

but with our Hornsby thread - it was good because if a couple of us were bored - post in there and we would say cool "meet at mt colah in 10mins" and then other guys in the area and forums could see and meet too as none of them posted in the "whore thread" or read it so hornsby was easier....

now I dont want to have to start a thread for 2-3 people for a couple of hours use.

I just thought it would be easier the way I described earlier  so subbing it up in a different subbed section would be good, and then if I were heading upto newcastle for the night I would post in the newie thread for a meet or "hey! look out for me!!" etc etc etc

:D
