Just for the record, I'll post my thoughts in here...

Although I understand that these "regional" threads may incentivize newer members to post and get to know people in their area, where they would usually feel too intimidated by the constant whoring by the regular group of 20 or so vocal members to post elsewhere, the question begs to be asked whether it's a good thing to allow this segregation to occur right from the word go.

One member admitted that 80% of his posts were in one of the regional threads. That sounds a loud alarm and starts a rotating flashing red light in my mind. This is NOT a good thing. But is it better than having the member post 80% LESS instead because he doesn't feel like he can post elsewhere? Hmmm... interesting

Another issue is that I have found in spending 30 minutes browsing these threads, is that 90% of the posts are people trying to organise meet ups. Now why in the world, would you organise a meet in a regional thread? NO-ONE except people who hail from that region would read that thread, so you're only advertising that meet to a tiny subsection of NSW. What is a cruise was organised in the Hornsby regional thread? Only the Hornsby people would read it, but what about the Northern Beaches crew? Quite a few of them would probably like to go along, but they would NEVER hear about the meet, because it's hidden in some stupidly exclusive thread!

Which leads me to another thing. If we were to have regional threads, they would HAVE to be regional. Campbelltown is NOT a region. Newcastle is NOT a region.

So in summary, I think that regional threads would be okay, but we need to SET the regions. You can't have people constantly making new threads and segregating NSW into smaller and smaller chunks until you have single suburb threads. That's utterly ridiculous.

Have PRE-DEFINED threads like "Northern NSW" that would cover the entire area from The Entrance and up. and "Northern Sydney" That covers the Hornsby, Northern Beaches, and the rest of the Kuring-gai area, etc etc.

Last of all, NO event organisation must occur in these regional threads. Want to organise a meet between your central coast buddies? Make a thread in the Events section so people outside of the central coast have the option to come!

Cant agree more with EVERY point made there

Very well said!

Ok well the votes came in 32 - 21 or something like that.

To appease the senior members of SAU I propose to setup each of the threads in the new subsection, set the rules for it and moderate it viciously.

I propose the following sections:

Newcastle

Central Coast

Hills Area

North inc Northern beaches, Hornsby etc.

West and Mountains, inc Penrith, Blacktown etc

Campbelltown

South inc Bankstown, Sutherland etc.

East

South coast

Draft rules:

1. All whoring, chatting, arranging of meet ups/cruises etc to be done in the above sticky threads.

2. Other area specific things can have their own threads unless it is deemed that it would more appropriately be placed in the NSW section.

3. Any exclusionist behavior will result in immediate warnings and/or bannings. Ie; if you post anything that is designed to make people leave the thread because they live elsewhere or for any other reason.

4. Try to think of your fellow SAUers. If a cruise looks like being a decent size a week or more before the event, post it in the NSW events section or ask a mod to move it there so that everyone can attend if they wish.

5. This section exists as entrance to the wider SAU community and to keep arrangements for small meet ups and cruises in one neat area. Everything else belongs in the main sections of SAU. Someone who has 80% of their posts in this section after 2-3 months is fine but someone who has 80% of their posts in this section after 4-6 months is not participating in the forum community and is going against the spirit of the forum.

6. This section is on trial only at this stage.

What do you all think - apart from being against me entirely - about the above?

Hmm, I am in two minds about hills being on its own. I dont think its too far from hornsby to not be included in North, but then its not that far from Penrith either, so yeah I guess have its own area.

That was my only concern about it.. i guess i cleared myself up tho :O

I think the events is a potential issue, do you mean each seperate subsection has its own events section?

I dont think thats a good idea

I think a better idea would be, make all the local events use the current events section, and just make the title like "Hills area meetup" then the date on the second line instead of how it is happening at the moment (which is a shambles and if i lived in Campbelltown i would have to read back through pages and pages to find meetup details)

If the boundaries are too hard to define, why not just make it North, South, East, West? to start with and see how it goes?

Also, we should delete Central coast, Newcastle and Campbelltown from the main NSW page, but i really think the rest should stay (esp Joke of the day whoever keeps un sticking that)

And the NSW execs/mods should have the mod rights to it (if that hasnt already been decided)

anythin for us southerners? ive attracted quite a few ppl from this area and around to this site n doesnt seem to b slowing down either like most reigons. just my 2c. central nsw/riverina areas could b another group

No I don't mean that. I mean meetups and local cruises stay in the one thread that never ends and is appropriate to the area.

We did discuss moving most of it to the events section but as I've said before that just makes the events section messy. Maybe I'm just being a bit protective of 'my' events section because since these regional threads all started up in NSW the events section has never looked better. I feel like we are getting better attendance too but it's hard to prove.

I don't think the boundaries are too hard to define. I just did it!

haha, fair enough

Yeah i just wanted to check if how i was reading it was right :(

(as adams not here atm, and i dont think he will be back today)

He suggested

As the areas. The best thing to do i would assume is make another section up the top between events and members that says "Local forums" or similar then within that have each area group listed as the title all modded by the current mods

:)

This thread right here, is case in point why ANY EVENTS should be posted in the EVENTS section, not hidden in some local area thread.

Hornsby crew cruise, but some Central Coast people coming along. Do you think the Central Coast people would have read it if was hidden in the proposed "North" thread, and not in the Central Coast thread? No chance :(

No no no no no no no... Is it an event? A meet? A cruise? Yes? Well then it belongs in the Events section.

Ha ha - this is funny shite :(

Wow, as insightful as ever, B-Man...

Merli, hence my push for people to add events to the calender. I can even make seperate calenders for every state if needed.

Agreed

I seem to be agreeing with you quite a lot lately :D

I think thats a good idea, but the way the current event section in NSW is operating seems to work quite well :)

I think that the local forum users must understand they should use the NSW EVENTS section, and even if they dont, threads can be moved my the mods so it should all be sweet IMO
