Hi,

I've just noticed that my car when i start it up and sit on idle, i can a hear a ticking sound from the engine bay. However, the minute my foot presses the clutch (or even just taps it with a small amount force) the noise goes away. It then returns if my foot comes off the clutch and the car sits running idle.

Any ideas? Should i be worried?

mine makes this squeaky sort of ticking noise. its a fork near the clutch somewhere. it can be greased through a rubber boot under the gearbox. i'm gonna get mine done when i have my gearbox oil changed this week. shouldnt cost anything really.

although this may be different from the noise u guys are getting.

Yeah lifters could the answer. But as you said it goes away and if a lifter / lifters are shot the sound would increase with the revs. So guess it aint them, as stated earlier next check would be the thrust bearing.
