Hi all,

Just thought I would start a new thread instead of jacking the F1 one. Anyone interested in these amazing machines feel free to inform us all of your likes/dislikes.

This pic (below) has two of my favourite all time great cars.

saw that one racing at Oran Park about 2 months ago at an HSRCA meet. We were running in NC touring cars and it was farking awesome. No wonder it won a lot cause that thing is so wide it would be literally impossibly to pass!

Another of Elfin's finest (BTW this is for sale @ A$180K)

Wasn't that car in Germany at one stage? I vaguely recollect reading about it in Wheels magazine - the bloke used to tow it to races with his 928 Porsche...

My vote is for the McLaren M6. :)

As far as I know, it still is.

There ya go and in green and gold too!

Talking of home grown big banger sporties, does anyone have pics and details on:

Matich SR5 - driven by Frank Gardner

Boral Ford - mid 80's and built by Eric Boord (I think)

Kaditcha Ford - driven by Bap Romano and designed and built by Barry Lock (I think). This car had a 3.0 litre Cosworth DFV and Tyrell FI running gear. Saw it in practice out at Lakeside one day and the sound just set the hairs on the back of my neck straight up. It originally had the exhaust ports exiting upwards through the rear hatch just behind the engine.

Oh ok DJR81 .... just for you

On the off chance the up load will work on my pc:

First image is of some dodgy Scottish driver called Jackie something with a tartan strip on his helmet doing some raod sweeping in the Chapparral 2J at Watkins Glen. A lazy 465 cubi inch Chev providing the motive power & a 2 stroke motor powering the two fans. To quote Denny Hulme:

"I didn't laugh because I knew anything that came from that shop had to be a serious contender. When I saw the thing squat down, I knew we were in deep shit."

Second is a write up from the 1970 Autocourse about the legalities of the 2J. Hope it is legible.

Third is some kiwi driver in a bright orange car. :)

Lastly a nice shot of the Gulf Porsche which surely wins the prize for the prettiest car ever built.

BTW, the photos work ok, just the thumbnails don't....

Gorgeous!

I have a Porsche history DVD which has a sectiuon on the 917. Seeing them belt down the Mulsanne straight is an absolutely awesome sight!

GT purely porsche had a good writeup of the last 917/30 built in it a few months ago. What I wouldn't give to see one in action...

Then don't muck around. Buy on eof these...

http://www.race-car-replicas.com/917.html

There is a small family company in outer suburban Melbourne currently building replica 917's. See a recent edition of Racer (Australian version) magazine for details.

And yes I must agree, I also don't normally get off on replicas, however if someone wants to give me a replica GT40 or any one of the big banger sporties, I am prepared to swallow my pride.

Cheers

Muz

ahhh the GULF porsche 917... such a beautiful car...

The 917K you refer to was not used in Can Am

I was lucky enough to see a 917K at Goodwood last year.....amazing car
