Not sure anyone said the 917 was a Can-Am car, just that it was pretty. Mmmm, pretty. :(

There are a number of companies doing replica cars.

917 can be had from Kraftwerkz in Aus & Racecarreplicas in the US.

GT40 from DRB in Oz &, again, Race car replicas.

Perhaps unsuprisingly the 60's & 70's tech can be quite easilly replicated today in such cars. Unfortunately the crashworthiness is, to some extent, replicated. Hell the original 917 used to scare Frank Gardner & he had bollocks the size of tractor tyres....

Anyway, replica GT40's are suprisingly common. There are a few around in WA Ricky Virago's is one of the very best.

I defy anyone to tell me that the GT40 is not the all time classic!!! That body shape has really stood the test of time. Even the Macca F1 which is a similar style can't replicate the aura that the GT40 has. (IMVHO) :(

I was lucky enough to get a some passenger laps at the old Lakeside circuit in Bowden's GT40-absolutely an amazing car and 5 laps Ill never forget-if anyone wants the same type of car for the street then the Ultima GTR is the one-feels like a CanAm/Le Mans type car for the street. I have been in one of those to-500hp and 900kgs-makes mince meet of my 600hp GTR :(

Well you have a choice of four GT-40 versions, so take your pick. Much prettier than it's Lola equivalent. Can I humbly submit the 956/962 Porsche?

By the way, you can build your own GT40 replica & have it registered for the road. Throw in a stroker 302 Windsor for some useful rwhp & with only 1000kg to lug around you can scare yourself silly.

AAAAaaaaaaahhhhhhh (huge sigh). Isn't it lovely that we can mention the absolute two all time classics in one post. Yes the 956/962 is almost on the same rarified level as the GT40. Only the proverbial ****hair between them. I would take any version of the GT40 ...... don't care which one. Hmmmm engine choice would have to be a tuned quad cam jobbie or a resurection of the Globe Engineering project for an F1 3.0 ltr V8. Just love the sound of those cams rattling around behind my ears ....... something almost serenely sexual about it. And so it becomes a choice .... CanAm replica - picking bugs from teeth or closed sports car and having to install A/C. Gees what a choice?

Unfortunately most of the Can-Am cars ran their motors as stressed components. So you tend to get the flies in place of the fillings that get rattled out. A flat plane crank V8 as a stressed member doesn't bear thinking about.... :)

Hmmmmmmm ........ must be similar to what Goss and co found when they used the Repco in the F5000 Matich........ blurred vision etc

saw that one racing at Oran Park about 2 months ago at an HSRCA meet. We were running in NC touring cars and it was farking awesome. No wonder it won a lot cause that thing is so wide it would be literally impossibly to pass!

I was there as well for saturday and some of the sunday and i agree it was impressive,even more so in the rain. It was right up there with the manic in the camaro on saturday!

I'm going to the Historic Sandown in november to watch 25 formula 5000's along with the sports cars.

British bombshell blasts world record with barnstorming run

British sports car specialist Ultima claims to have eclipsed the production-car world record for sprinting from standstill to 100mph (160km/h) and then back to rest with its hard-core, lightweight GTR coupe.

Piloted by Ultima director Richard Marlow along a 2.9km runway at the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Leicestershire, the road-legal GTR scorched to 60mph (96km/h) in 2.8sec, while 100mph (160km/h) was dispatched in a blistering 5.9sec. Another 4.4sec later, the car was stationary.

"This record time beats the legendary McLaren F1 road car by well-over a full second at less than one-tenth of the cost," boasts Ultima.

The manufacturer claims the times were set by a "standard, factory built, fully road legal, road tyred Ultima GTR built using all of the high spec factory specified and proven parts".

Power for the 993kg missile was provided by a 478kW 6.2-litre Chevrolet V8 engine, mated to a Porsche G50 five-speed transaxle gearbox. The car was equipped with air-conditioning (which adds weight), but devoid of traction-control devices, launch control systems or ABS braking aids.

"The 0-100mph-0 test is believed by many to be the ultimate test for any car and is a true indicator of a cars all round performance ability," gushed Marlow after the run.

"We haven't strapped any timing gear onto one of our cars for a few years now and decided that the time was right to demonstrate to everybody how we have been successfully developing our product over the years and gained a world record in the process.

The world record attempt was overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology, which is acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records as official timekeepers, using state-of-the-art Microsat GPS equipment.

Thanks for the feedback. The only ones i have seen for sale are two for sale in NZ for 80k. They are used for racing only in NZ with a Lexus 4.0ltr coming 2nd in their championship and the subaru powered coming 1st over there.

I dont know what car in the last thread is, mabey one of those sweedish creations and my bet.Spkyker I think it is.They run at LM this year in GT2.
