There's Morpowa, no residential houses along that street & pricing should be around the Tilbrooks range.

i would hope to think there cheaper than Tilbrooks and i dont think skylines would be much louder than revvy toyota's but would have to ask shaun what he knows he can get away with

i think on said night we could all put in maybee for pizza pie and cokes wot ever your poison

Steve didn't they say your car was leaning out? Or was that just Seans car? Maybe your fuel pump is on the way out or you need to start using 98 octane.

Interesting the IT temps are consistent.

Didn't feel like 40degree air inside there. yer was warm but not 40.

Was shaun placing the sensor on the pods/inlet snorkle etc I can't say I looked. :)

Yeah I did notice Shaun was placing the sensor in the snorkel.

Still surprised that my IT was 49, heat soak, a hot engine & maybe a bad fan position too is the only explanation I have.

yeah my last dyno run when i got 175 it was leaning out but on sat shaun said it was fine :)

From my experience with dyno's its more your rear tyres getting to hot that drops the power/ torque on the second run then heat soak.

If you sit back and think about how much load is placed on your back tyres as there screaming away on a nearly smooth metal drum. also when you add in the fact that shaun straps your cars back and down, in my eyes thats pulling your rear wheels away from the front roller. how are you supposed to get good power to to the dyno with out getting up on top of the front roller for maximum traction?

the only proof i have is i was with a friend at boostworx a couple of months ago and he was missing 56kws from the previous day on a different dyno. i felt the tyres after just one power run and they were slimy, and way to hot to use so we left.

on the other hand hitek dyno straps your car very differently. the further your car goes forward the harder its forced onto the front roller, and you get consistent runs.

the other day i was on there for over an hour and as we made changes the power kept rising.

once i got to final reult we ran it up twice and both runs were within 1 kw of each other. yet the back tyres were still gripping stong and weren't slimy at all.

end result 317kws.

He also uses a laptop for tuning the power fc.

The main reason I got such a major power drop I think you will find is due to the fact I've still only got the little side mount intercooler & mine did put out the highest amount of power out of the 33's with the stockie. Many were actually pulling more power on their second run & they had a lot more at the wheels than me, somehow I don't think 177kw is enough to trouble their dyno & I do have some 265's on the back so pleanty of grip.

Both runs were done simitaneously & when you look at my chart torque was dropping off the whole way through (it jumped up when it boost control went into high mode but started dropping off even quicker thereafter) so by the time the second run was carried out my intake temp at the plenum would have been nice & toasty.

I'm sure if I get a beefy front mount fitted the readings will be much more consistent, not to mention higher.

Shaun owns a datalogit. He prefers to use the hc as its faster for him. Using the lappie is personal preference and is no different to using the hc. It just enables us to data log, and change a few other settings when u run out of resolution etc...

Its about consistency. Dont go from one dyno to another and expect it to read the same. Shauns dyno is know to read lower than others.

I was more concerned by the temp of the tyres.

on shauns dyno they were melting, on the other dyno they were fine to touch.

next time you run your car there feel your tyres!

If you strap it loose and let the tyres up on the front rollers,

you will get a higher reading:), this trick has been proven many times

in dyno comps before here and interstate. You can apparently also overspeed the dyno by getting it

up on the front roller and let it wheelsping hard on it and get a fudged figure aswell with big power cars

I'm confused, why would you get more traction on the front roller, there is more surface area when you car

is on both rollers! the same reason you tyres get a lot hotter! they are actually touching something!

I dunno about you guys but I don't think Shaun's dyno reads low. It seems on the mark to me. But interesting about the tyres being warm. Its an indication that there is excessive friction.. either being strapped down too hard or not enough?

my old mechanic told me u can also run brake on dynos and sum tunning places will wind the brake on for your first pass pretend to much arround with your car then wind it off and instant more KW your happy and they get paid :(

thats the first time i've heard that about the tires, its interesting to know, i think you guys need to try and stop reading into these figures so much. Remember a dyno is only a tuning tool, the track and your MPH is a real test of the power your making and until we get a track we won't really know i guess! Dyno's can vary so much with their power readings just from the tiniest things, its nothing to get caught up on!

    • This might be true if you live in NZ but I can't see how this could be true for us locals here.  I've found the customer support for Haltech to be absolutely amazing. I've turned up to Haltech and spent entire days with their tech support guys, they've even helped me with wiring dramas that had nothing to do with their products.  They have the best customer support of any company I've dealt with, I can't imagine how my experiences with them could possibly be any better.
    • If you want to do a single throttle body conversion easily, you won't need to pull anything apart. Take the linkage from your throttle off the linkage controlling the ITBs. Now open the ITBs wide open, and lock the linkages in said position. Now add a single throttle body onto the front of your inlet plenum. No it's not ideal for the last nth of a kw, but it'll be a lot better than what you're already trying to do...   PS, ITBs can be so damn hard to tune from, because roughly 20% movement in a throttle body equates to a change in roughly 80% of its flow (Hence power). When you add up the flow limitations of those small throttle bodys, it is a LOT higher than that of a single large throttle. Hence, TPS is very very sensitive with them, and you do a LOT of work with sensor fusion, and some Maths behind the scenes to make those blends nice, and be smooth.
    • Yep, when Haltech purchased Adaptronic, and all of the Adaptronic staff, including Andy went with it, it took Haltech to the next level. Haltech wanted Adaptronic as they wanted things like Andy's fuel models, and some other IP, AND they wanted Andy too as he is brilliant! Andy has spoken about the incompatibilities between the old 1500 stuff vs Nexxus, and it totally makes sense. It's not JUST software that is different, there is huge changes in the underlying hardware too. It's why Haltech has had soooo many changes in the last couple of years, in terms of Hardware, and Software, and why it has become so damn Amazing. Why do you think guys like Rob Dahm with his quad rotor, went from running Adaptronic's to running Haltechs? Andy. Pretty much, Haltech these days, is Adaptronic, but with more funds behind it, and more staff, and hence Andy's visions, and visions of other people that he helps shape their great visions, into amazing new products. All the new Nexxus gear, whole new software for it, new and better dashboards, the apps that will run on headunits and NOT be slow to respond! I understand people being burnt in the past, but if you're ragging on a company, about products and issues from many years ago, it's more a reflection on yourself, not looking or keeping up with new stuff. In which case, those people should be going back to PowerFC and Nistunes as the ECU's to rave on about...
    • Right, but I thought the problem has been for a while now that even if you know manifold pressure + throttle position you still have non-linearity and aliasing issues vs actual engine load? One way I can see things simplifying is going DBW, then all air going into the engine is represented by the throttle position. As opposed to a random bimetallic strip vaguely linked to engine temperature opening and closing a shutter or some random power steering air valve suddenly allowing a bunch of bypass air. But the same throttle position/RPM at ~atmospheric MAP in different gears is not guaranteed to be same engine load? Honestly, ITBs are of such dubious value IMO. I don't know why these things are hyped up so much. The main benefit as far as I can tell is you reduce the likelihood of cross-cylinder EGR scavenging with significant cam overlap at idle. I would absolutely run speed density and be done with it if not for this fairly esoteric control problem.
    • Hah dont worry, my adult brain has this conversation every single day. Dont waste your money, invest more of it into shares, pay down the mortgage. Then the bedtime insta doom scrolling begins and after being bombarded with gtr's my mind is set: im definitely getting one! I have the current model mx5 as the weekender, but i just miss my boost and literally like your username, the sututu's that come with it. I remember with my 2nd supra, as it had twins and vvti, they used to spool real early, like 1,500rpm so you could just be a spooly boy all day long. Some people say they get over it after a while, not me tho.
