exactly...blame the hippies dammit! :/ lol

Its part of the atmosphere to have loud cars...racing with cars in their natural untamed state roaring and hissing whether its v8s or turbos...wish people who werent involved in motorsport would understand and accept that. Just means people are gonna have to run a large muffler to reduce the noise.

Thats the problem the tracks been there for so damn long its not funny, the people move/build around the track & know its there & then bitch about the noise.

There for stuffing any chance of anyone being able to use the track for what its ment for RACING...

But as Michael has said it is easy to make a car exhust quiet & still have just as much flow as a full open bore exhust, just a few more dollars & thought need to go into the systems set up....

Lakeside Renaissance On Track

Brisbane, Australia – Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts congratulates Queensland Raceway for becoming the “preferred submitter” from the Pine Rivers Shire Council’s tender process to re-develop and manage Lakeside International Raceway. The historic facility’s name has been changed to Lakeside Park, but work still remains before motorsport can return.

Queensland Raceway owner, John Tetley said,

“We are seeking a long-term lease to secure Lakeside’s future and I hope to have a contract signed in about a month.”

Pine Rivers Shire Chief Executive Officer, Ray Burton said,

“Council is negotiating a management agreement and contract with Queensland Raceway which will include the times of operation.”

LMRE president, Ian Milton said,

“Assuming there is a successful outcome to negotiations, we are looking forward to assisting John Tetley and the Pine Rivers Council to develop Lakeside into a desperately needed motorsport venue that benefits the whole community.”

Following the PRSC announcement, LMRE committee members met with Mr Tetley to discuss the Council approved strategy for the famous circuit. Lakeside Park will operate as a “boutique facility” and seek to recreate the look and feel from its halcyon days of the 1960’s and 70’s.

Its operation as a motorsport facility will not be as it once was and a compromise has been made to limit racing to 20 events per year. As expected, the return of V8Supercars has been ruled out.

Mr Tetley admits that noise and other environmental concerns are of paramount importance to the plan as well as encouraging a greater involvement in the facility by the wider community.

Furthermore, Mr Tetley offered that Lakeside “must be the servant of many to be successful” and will be seeking to include all forms of motorsport with two and four wheels.

He said that it would be “unlikely to have a race this year”, but a re-opening celebration would be appropriate. The first official racing event is described as a “Renaissance Festival” and is scheduled for May 2007.

However, a significant program of safety improvements is planned for the track before then, including repairing the racing surface and moving armco barriers.

Ian Milton said,

“LMRE is encouraged by the common sense direction the council seems to be taking to create a shared facility that could bring real, long-term financial and social benefits, not just to the people of the Pine Rivers Shire, but the whole of Queensland.”

Queensland Raceway wins Lakeside Management Tender

The Pine Rivers Shire Council has selected Queensland Raceway for the redevelopment and management of the former Lakeside raceway at Kurwongbah.

Chief Executive Officer, Ray Burton, said the selection process was difficult as there were environmental considerations and a high standard of submissions from the short-listed organisations which included Queensland Police Citizens Youth Welfare Association and Total Driver Pty Ltd.

"The successful submission by Queensland Raceway will begin a new era at Lakeside," Mr Burton said. "The facility's name will change slightly from Lakeside International Raceway to Lakeside Park in keeping with the green environment of the site."

Mr Burton said Queensland Raceway's redevelopment would address the environmental impact of motorised sport, which included noise levels, heritage obligations and a revegetation strategy.

"Council is negotiating a management agreement and contract with Queensland Raceway which will include the times of operation," he said. "Queensland Raceway will also preserve the park's flora, fauna and vista for the enjoyment of current and future generations as it is developed into a revitalised venue and successful business operation. This organisation will liaise and consult with the Council's environment officers and Pine Water to ensure the preservation of the physical environs including air, water and soil."

Queensland Raceway's winning submission included a range of driver and motorcycle training activities, mileston and historic racing events, displays and non-motorised recreational activities.

Mr Burton said Lakeside Park was expected to be open for business in 2007.

Queensland Raceway spokesman John Tetley said while the redevelopment would require a lot of financial investment and support he believed the sentiment of its supporters and the soul of the venue would help his organisation to return Lakeside to an even stronger community asset than before, involving a broad cross-section of community group and business participation.

HAHAHAHA

I was at lakeside today... I got a photo of an energex car racing round the circuit... Was funny, the chubb security guy had to let them in to do some electrical work. But there were having lots of fun in their company cars... :(

Looks like prime real estate to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for Lakeside to re open, but what’s the point if there are going to be so many restrictions, kinda takes the fun out of racing.. And limiting it to 20 events a year? I duno, just seems silly to me. And to hold no drifting is just stupid, the money being injected into drifting as a spot now only makes it a more wise business decision to want to hold events… IMHO the owners of the site should just redevelopment the land into another estate community “Lakeside Park” comes to mind :(

The money generated could just build another track in a more suitable area :)

Then again, I’m just speculating, knowing the current Queensland development plan set out for the next 10 years, chance’s are Lakeside can’t even be touched if you wana cut it up into 700m2 blocks.

Well she does not look anything like that anymore...

The lake in lakeside is no where to be seen, i mean with the drought and all its just not there. So at the monent its more like droughtside...

Josh as for the land, its now heritage listed with pine rivers shire. So it will remain a raceway for ever now. It cannot be developed. The actually site now belongs to pine rivers council and they are setting the rules in relation to the limited events.

I see that they are just running enough events to maintian the site in terms of mowing the lawns. The track it self is pretty average to be honest these days. It really needs a few million spent on facilities and the track iteself if it were to even compair to qld raceway.

The site is very delapidated and looks pretty ugly. Event the old ticket booths have been pushed over by kids and trashed. I have very find memories of those ticket booths. One of my only memories from lakeside as a kid, how you drove through the booths and parked up beside the raceway and watched the action.

Thought as much, but doesn’t this make it a catch 22 situation? It’s Heritage listed, so it will stay the same forever and a day – but the local residence complain about the noise – Thus it will never be a fully-fledged race site again.

The QR decision was announced a couple of months ago.

Lakeside is not heritage listed. That was overturned by agreement with QHC and PRSC in an appeal lodged by PRSC. In that deal some significant features are protected until May 2010 IIRC. After that there is no protection for the site at all.

I ran on Lakeside a few months ago, and the track is in exactly the same condition as when it was closed down by liquidators. They used to race on it in exactly the same condition. As for the buildings, well it was never very pretty, but they definitely need a tidy-up! I believe the deal currently being negotiated between PRSC and QR involves significant upgrades.

State level racing is allowed under the terms of the tender, and the maximum of 20 events per year means you can basically run events every other weekend of the motorsport 'season'. It also depends what they define an "event" as. The facility also has to serve other community purposes and recreation activities.

I'm just glad it's reopening! Any opportunity to race around Lakeside again is great, and something I never thought we have the chance to do again.

Yee haa When i get to brissy and be staying at my dads for a while his back fence looks at the eastern loops or what ever its called at the top of the hill, so you can garuntee there will be no noise complaints from that house......Better take it off the group buy list too.

this is only a guess, but, in a single word

no

I believe this due to the extremely strict noise restrictions that are going to have to be imposed.

as well as the track now being toted as an 'environmentally friendly' track, i don't think they'd appreciate people sending huge plumes of tyre smoke into the atmosphere.

also, drifting is gay

Speak for yourself buddy.

also did you get your tickets for Sydney Hot shots?
