Ok so i disconnected each coil to narrow it down to a cylinder that was the problem, its no.1.

First thing i did was pull the sparkplug out, looks a bit black, and has that shiney coat i mentioned earlier? Could be fuel??? but had no strong fuel smell to it...

Ran a compression test - 150psi on that cylinder (didn't have time to do the others)

Put in a copper plug, didn't fix it, took out the splitfire coil and replaced it with my standard one, didn't fix it.

So at this stage i'm assuming it has to be a wiring fault to the no.1 coil.

Could be your injector??

Check if your spark plug is actually firing. Take it out, coil and all and earth spark plug on to engine and actually physically check if it firing. (preferably unhook injectors at this time as well as fuel mist could be bad in this test).

Glad to hear your compression is ok! PHEW!!!

Ok so thought i was stupid to do the compression on only 1 cyl so went back and did the whole thing

No1 150psi

No2 150psi

No3 140psi

No4 140psi

No5 145psi

No6 140psi

no 1 actually gave a reading as high as 160psi but with a couple of repeats the figure was 150psi.

Now i'm really out of time, have to get ready for the drive to the sunny coast.. Stupid work ;)

12DFY- yep i'm suspecting injectors aswell, i'll get someone to check them aswell as the circut to no.1 coil.

if you dont find any problems .. disconect your batt .. leave it out for a hour or so .. this should reset your ECU then start up see if that helps .. hopefully its sorted out soon

If you want , I can plug the laptop in and have a look at any fault codes ,but must be before Friday 1.00pm as we are off to Leyburn for the weekend . Live at Shailer Park and work across the road from home.

Brad

A black spark blug can mean 15 difrent things was it oily or was it dry powdery or was it thick tar like??

Again I will say It sounds like the COMPUTER to me give me a little more info on what the plug

was like * Also it shouldnt smell like petrole in the chamber becouse it burns 0_o lol *

I belive you could probly download a chart on Spark plug discoloration identification and problme solving

as you will notice most work shops have one.

PS: I still think its related to the computer.

PPS: who said it was a head gasket 0_o the noise stoped and started again....

woooo back from the sunny coast,

Took it to moolooabah auto electrics (on aerodrome rd moolooabah) - talked to a kiwi bloke there, left my car for an hour, came back and it was running like a dream!

The fault was traced to the injector - although there was power going to it, the ecu triggers the injector to inject by earthing it - which it wasn't doing- he pulled out the ecu to check for faulty parts, water damage etc- all good- when he put it back in the car ran fine again! I suspect a loose connection either in the pin of no.1 injector earth lead (on the ecu side) or a problem within the ecu itself- maybe dry solder joint?

Either way problem was fixed and only cost $88!! (i was thinking hundreds at least!!)

Excellent mate, good to see it is finally sorted! We were right it was the injector!!!!! Injectors are an absolute pain in the arse of a thing to diagnose. I Had a injector that was working fine but was dribbling constantly, the only symptom it had was blowing heaps of smoke when it was revved. That took me a good few days to find!!!!!
