Hello fellow skyliners!!

Give you some background on my current problem. I have two R33 GTST sedans, my one is currently undergoing painting (stripped into hundreds of bits) in Narrabri courtesy of a spray painter friend. Now that is all going well and good still, but am not expecting car back for a few weeks yet. Which leads me to my wifes 33, reliable as, still in perfect operating condition and has never had a problem in three years.

Now the problem begins when you have a family with two kids etc. One car is hard enough for the moment but as murphy's law states, "what can go wrong, will go wrong." First I was putting new 17" mags on her car this morning but there was a stuff up with delivery and they were a no show. Annoyed a bit by that but what can you do.

Sure enough driving home today from Currumbin sanctuary (had a good day mind you) we were travelling along Clagiraba road heading home to Canungra, came over a hill doing the speed limit, and as we were about five metres away from somebodies drive way there two dogs came running straight out on the road infront of the car. Crunch, nothing i could do (dogs were Rottwheeler and boxer). I cleaned up the boxer!! It >_< did not die straight out (and still dont know as the owners rushed him to vet). We stopped and ran in too there farm house and let them know what happened. Owners were cool etc. After chatting to the owners I decided to check my poor skyline. Damage is as follows;

Two broken headlights, one totalled

Bumper wrecked, Lucky it has no FMIC

Bumper support bent

Wrecked Grille

Bonnet dented quite bad just above corner of Grille

All just replaceable parts bar the bonnet. The big problem is we now have no car AT ALL?????????

Hope the dog pulls through!!!!!!!!!

If you're insured and you know who the owners are and where they live , then make a claim!

But yeah sh!t like that always happens when your one car down.

good luck gettin em back on the road soon.

My mum hit a dog which did about $1000 damage to her magna and when she rang RACQ they said that they would not charge her an excess because she had never made a claim in 20 years...

This does not help you but all you need to do is pass on the info of the dog owner to your insurance company and get your car fixed ASAP.

Take out a rent a car option, or choose a repairer with a loan car maby...?

Dog did not make it. Feel bad as it was some poor persons family pet. Car is insured and we will get rent a car after seven days apparently.

Are the owners of the dog liable for the excess for the insurance??? What are youre thoughts on the matter??

yeah, they are liable as the dogs have to be contained within their property or leashed at all other times. as col said, if it was a public road, they are responsible for the damage. but you do feel bad asking people for money after you have killed their pet....

Car goes in tomorow for the repairs to be done. I just hope they do it properly as replace parts rather than dodgy them up. Was a shame, after I can see the bare metal under the paint, I can conclude that it has never had bog applied to it before (never crashed).

You are right, I feel bad asking them for money but rest assured if my dog was hit and damaged a car I would probably get sued or something.

Car problem solved, friend has given me free reign of his 180sx for a week or so as he is away. The hurt is slightly less since I will be still in a nissan.

Other car has just began to have the prep work done for its new paint, bare metal inside and out. Mate is doing a lot of work to it for cheap. Will be painted a very coarse metallic silver (looks sparkly) with a coarse metallic dark grey two tone on the bottom. Then being finished with a golden/purple pearl (depends on how the test piece turns out).

I CANT WAIT (6 weeks or so to go but)

My partner just contacted the owners of the dog to try to sort out what they are going to pay towards our excess. The owners have had a complete backflip on their previous promise of assisting us with the insurance and yelled at my partner on the phone and were completely rude. They claim we were speeding and had the police come out and measure the skid marks and everything (so they say). I actually contacted the police the night that we hit the dog just to find out what happens in this case. Police said "is a civil problem not a criminal one." So theywould not touch it. I spoke to my friend who is a cop also and said this is governed by council by-laws.

Police were not interested so how they had them come out and measure my skid marks seems a bit far fetched.

We were actually going to happily go halves in the excess and forget about the matter, but after they were just plain out rude and aggressive towards us it is now the principle of the thing.

At the end of the day if they claim we were speeding (what a surprise how a person in a skyline can not be obeying the law, TYPICAL) the fact of the matter is that they had their dogs on a public road and we hit the poor thing.

What should I do???????

If you have fully comp insurance just hand over the details of the other party to your insurance company and let them do the rest....

Your car will get fixed and your insurance company will go after them for the excess...

Simple... Tell you insurance company what they said to you at the time and then what they said tonight also...

If i was you id put the boot in and tell them your insurance company will be contacting them and not to lie about the police measuring skids as you checked in to it...

Thanks for the reply Col

We rang insurance company tonight after the conversation, insurance company has the details but were unsure if they could force the owners to pay. Will find out definately in next couple of days.

Will sink the boot a little further in and contact the council and let them know about an insecure yard for the dogs given they are on a main road, hopefully get them fined for that as well and sting them for the costs of having to construct a proper fence.

Could have been sorted by a friendly conversation paying half/half and everyone happy. Now im annoyed at their attitude and they will pay. Maybe even more than my excess by the end of it.

Then I can conduct a black-op and blow up their acreage!!!!!LOL. :D

I hate people like that...

I would wish you luck but your insurance will take care of it all... Its not the forst time this has occured and all you need is the dogs owners details...

Insurance companies will spend thousands taking people to court to get a simple $350 excess... Its the principle of the matter...

Your insurance will take care of everything, just keep pushing them for a speedy repair and all will be well...

Thanks Col for your concern, we pick up the car tomorow from the repair shop but unfortunatelyit will put us 1300 out of pocket till the insurance recovers us our debt. We will survive but its just down right annoying. Always when my car is 700km away getting painted.....

And we are still going to get our new 17" mags on it tomorow that we were going to get the day the accident occured. Not changing my plans for this kind of buggerance.

Thanks guys

Hit them for everything!!! :D

You try to be nice, polite and reasonable and they spit in your face !!! :D

They could claim what they want, only the facts are important, and the facts say you are in the right. If you have full comp, let you insurance handle everything, they will fix your car (without adding a claim against your policy) and then sue the owners, of the dogs, for the full amount of the reapir.

Thats a shame...

Why are you out of pocket $1300...?

Is your insurance company not doing the repairs??? Have you just taken it to a shop to get done then planning on giving the invoice to the insurance company...???

That is the excess for our insurance, we opted for low premiums with a high excess. This is the first claim we have made in our five years of owning the skylines so it has paid for itself.

Car is fixed, picking it up tomorow. Repairs were in the vicinity of 4000-5000

Two new headlights

New Bonnet

New Grille

Repair Bumper

Repaint bonnet,guards,bumper etc

And fog light

Arhh well...

So the insurance company is making you pay the excess to chase up the party at fault???

Usually your car would be repaired with no cost to you and then the people at fault would be contacted to fit the bill???

Thats how RACQ did my claim when i was hit from behind in my old skyline... The party who hit me said im sorry its my fault at the scene and then 4 days later said what are you talking about, you reversed into me... RACQ took care of it all and i never had to pay a cent...

Interesting, thanks for sharing that. Will investigate the matter fully with the insurance company to see exactly what is meant to happen and exactly what is happening. Will converse with them first thing in the morning.

Will get to the bottom of this!

My understanding is that the second you pay the excess you are admitting fault or you are taking responsibility for the accident and the damages incurred...

Id be very very clean to them in the morning about asking the right questions like "Wwy your paying the excess" and "When you will be getting the excess refunded???"

I would use those words and ask for confirmation in writing and write down the names of the people you are speaking to in the call centres...

    • The cross sectional area of a circular hole scales with the square of diameter. So a 2mm diameter hole is 4x the area of a 1mm hole. Not double. The 1.7mm hole is nearly 3x the area of a 1mm hole. You do not need restrictors at both ends of the oil supply line. If you have new, additional restrictors at the turbo end, that you did not have before, then you do not need a restrictor at the inlet end.
    • Hi all. Been a while but things are moving along. I just have something that I am wondering about. Since I will use OEM turbo oil pumbing, I got myself a new bolt, the one that goes into the engine block oil feed. As I recall (and see visually) this bolt comes restricted with I think a 1.7mm hole? Not quite sure but it was something around that size. The turbos have 1mm restrictor bolts installed, as necessary due to ball bearings and my higher oil pressures. Can I now just use that OEM bolt with the 1.7mm hole in for the engine block or will this actually be too much oil flow restriction and I have to drill it out first? In my head it would make sense for the bolt to be at least 2mm wide as both turbos take "1mm of oil flow". Do let me know if my logic is flawed here, I just want to make sure I don't kill my turbo bearings with too little oil. Don't know if I can trust the saying I read somewhere that ball bearing turbos essentially only need an oil mist

    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
