I did it letter by letter with a razor blade and a stool and some patience.

My tip for these stickers is to go over them with a bank card first before attempting to pull the backing off. I think when the stickers are made they just place the top sheet over the cut vinyl and probably dont press them all that hard.

But definatly patients and a slow peel is the key.

OK I found my other left over sticker while watching Law and Order just before...happened to have a knife and off i went...and the result...a slightly butched sticker but the picture tells the story...

Yay! now I need some unf'd versions and its done...

I think you are supposed to take the white strip off. It is intended to help peel the backing off. I stand corrected if this isnt the case but that was the way I understood it.
