OK, after looking at different types of "Family" cars to upgrade to, my wife and I have settled firmly on buying a Stagea. (Currently own a 98 SSS Pulsar) We have looked at a few and quite frankly, I am confused. Now I know the one I would love (RS260), but certainly can't afford one, so here is my dilema.

What type/ model should I be looking for? I have been offered a '96 model cheap but I sort of like the Ser2 models with the lights in the front grille. How much difference is there between the Ser1 and Ser2? Should I take the Ser1 and spend the money I save doing extra things to the car? What is the DAYZ version? Is this a special edition with extra features or is it at the other end of the scale?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, anyone know a good importer in the Brisbane/ Gold Coast/ Sunny Coast area? I am in Hervey Bay and there isn't alot up this way. Also, where does everyone get their spare parts from (Touch wood, I won't need any in a hurry), do you all go to Nissan and pay from what I have noticed a huge markup or do you get alot of them through wreckers? What is the easiest way to get part numbers, short of stealing the import CD off a Nissan Tech?

Sorry for all the questions, but as the title says, I am a NOOB when it comes to this, but I do like to listen.

Thanks Greatly

Dave (and Jess)

i would suggest you to get the Rs4 S2. Get the manual one and with the Neo engine in it. Dont get the S1 triptronic ones.

Parts wise preety much the same as the R33. The rest of it Nissan dealers or theres a few wreckers down your way. But i will let the ex[erts guys in the forum to guide you through.

Get a good impotier i sued Jspec and they are good and resonable. Sop aorund though and there might be a few people will suggest othe impotier as well that they have used. Good luck buddy.

Dont forget S2 manual Rs4 Neo engine. You would not regret it

s2 are more fuel efficient, but if you are going to do mods and stuff, I guess it would really matter?

I have a S1, price was right and don't really have to do anything to it.. its got enough ( I think).

There's some nice S1's out there with full leather, sunroof's... with the way petrol is these days, I'd stick with a 4 cyl wagon!

series 2 has 206kw and comes in manual or tiptronic also RWD drive models are available for import

series 1 is only 180kw or so no tiptronic and auto only

obviously there are cosmetic differences between series 1 and 2 but thats horses for courses so hope this info helps

Dave,

First up, good choice of vehicle. The Stags are great. The S2 manual would have to pick (unless there is cash for a 260). The DAYZ edition has carbon fibre dash and console surrounds along with an airbag MOMO tiller. Very nice! Apart from that I dont think there is much difference.

Cheers,

Ken (very happy owner of 2 Stags)

YEP!! i got one!

plenty of support for the RB25DET around, also the S1's are substantially cheaper. manual is obviously a drawcard, but if oyu're getting a wagon for what they're made for, you don't want to be pushing in a clutch with a heavy car behind it all day long. my auto has done me well, it's only recently i've started manual conversion. the auto is responsive, obviously the Series2 auto box is superior again.

S2 manual all the way drove an S1 and the auto in it turned me off but then again it may have just been that car too? cos it was a slug compared to the series2 that i bought.

i got mine from motorman imports in qld.

paid a bit more for it (but also knew nothing about these cars either) but they have been awesome with after sales service etc.

im like terminal I have the series one with the good bits like leather and dual sunroofs its auto for now but with the price of manual boxes and the deal i got for my beast I am able to go manual and still enjoy the fruit and even though there is a power difference it just means a little more required in terms of mods

but hey horses for courses if i could have stretched the budget i would have gone for a series 2 manual with leather and dual sunroofs if i could have found one

Thanks for all the replies. Forgot to mention though, manual or auto doesn't really worry me. I have a manual SSS but it is getting to give me the shits. Especially when I come down to brisbane (all the stopping and starting). I was looking at the ser2 with the triptronic gearbox (any down sides to this?). I have noticed that manuals are very hard to find. I have been offered a 1996 RS-Four for approx. $13700 Onroad with 60000Ks on the odo. Not sure though cause I don't know if I would be happy with it. I'm thinking we may just save a bit more cash and look at the ser2.

By the way, what is the difference between the RS4 and the RS-Four? Any, or do people just get lazy and not bother writing (Four).

Hi Dave,

People get lazy, RS4 is RS Four.

I have an S1 that I am very happy with, if I had the money I would have gone for an S2 for sure, newer car, newer technology etc etc. Manual, even better if that's what you want.

Don't know of any issues with the Tiptronic other than the fact that it really is an auto and not like driving a manual at all... I can manual shift my auto when I want to, I think that gives pretty much the same effect.

Cheers

Luke

Its all good. S1 S2. Depends what you want and HOW MUCH you want to spend and what you expect for your dollar.

We buy our Stageas for different reasons. I had a Forester (a shit of a vehicle) that was too small. I wanted a bigger wagon, a Nissan, because I've a Skyline thats done 600k. A Stagea is the only choice.

I have a stocker S1. 90k on the clock, Y450,000 in December last year. On the road, reg, ins and tyres around $13 and a bit.

With the way prices are going because the M35 is nearly available, and more S2 are coming on the market its a good time to buy. AND the dollar is nearly Y90. Thats a 5% reduction on 6 months ago.

If you cant afford the price of petrol, buy a Commondoor and gas it!

I bought thru Prestiege Motorsport in WA, but others like J-Spec have good deals too. Compliance thru Iamshe at Ashmore on the Gold Coast was faultless.

If your not in a hurry, browse the dealers. Find what you want and import it yourself.

We are lucky in Queensland because shipping times are much shorter here.

Have fun, drive a Stagea.

    • interestingly enough, i found out the answer is yes. doing a flush did fix my recurring A/T light. it might have been because of the trans filter: but that doesn't really make sense to me. the fluid/filter was super dirty. would that increase the pressure in the lines and trigger an A/T light? does the car even have a way of detecting that? i have no idea. i've done 200+ miles after the flush and no A/T light. if my A/B solenoids went bad, i would think the light would've come on. shifts and drives way better now though...at 2k rpm instead of 2500...no hesitation and downshifts when i want it to.
    • I vote go red. Only because I hate keeping gloss black clean. Was no worries helping out either! Glad you've survived the rain outs of QLD
    • I would again like too thank Matt for his help in me sourcing the detachable hard top for the little red car, without Matt's assistance in inspecting it and locking it down, I can guarantee it would have sold before I could get up to see it,  and as that was the only available NC hardtop in Australia, I consider myself extremely lucky on multiple levels To say I'm more that happy would be an understatement And, it is 100% water tight, I drove through torrential rain coming back south, and by torrential, they type of rain that doing 40kph in a 110kph zone was a real thing, and even then, the standing water on the Hwy was deep enough to throw waves I'm also more than happy that the huge "BEASTS" that Matt calls dogs didn't eat me for lunch, I'm sure the sniffs and licks were more to "taste test" me, over being to friendly Now to work out what colour to get it painted, panel match, or gloss black........first world problems are real
    • Actually I might have figured out. Looks like there is a tab according to google images but it's hidden. Silly me.
