Hi all,

I brought a R33 this weekend and having to drive it home (1000km) it was so loose in the back end like a big bump in the road and it felt like a trampoline, the back end just about lifted of the ground. It seems really really soft and im a little confused why. Maybe im dump but yeah.

This is what i was told was in the car "Gas shockies (Gab suspension)" Can this be pumped up or what????

Im picking the the shockies are gone but looking at them they look nice and new still shinny paint on them

If anyone can help out, that would be great cheers

gas shocks don't need pumping up, they are supposed to be a sealed unit.

maybe they are simply set too stiff, so when you hit the bump rather than the shocks absorbing it they pushed the car up into the air, and then the back wheels came down hard.

even in totally stock form the back end feels quite lively, so with stiffer shocks i'm sure it would be a problem!

My pulsar and skyline do the same thing.

I noticed with aftermarket suspension, the rear will bump and kick a bit on rough roads.

I was informed that making it a little stiffer in the rear would get rid of this because the rear was under shocked. Dont know how true this is or how well it works. Have only just set the rears stiffer so will have to wait and see.

What happens when you "bounce" the rear end of the car? How far can you push the back down when you lean on it? What happens when you release the load?

If you get it bouncing, it should stop within 2 bounces - otherwise the shocks are shot.

If you have no joy with the responses that you have heard, i have noticed with cars that are "lighter in the back end" than normal cars, to run a slightly lower tyre pressure in the rear wheels, see if this helps, i would recomend about 32 - 34 in th rear and about 36 in the front. see if that helps with the bouncy effect.
