Hi All

Been reading up about the stagea the last few days, seems like quite a good car. I own a fwd coupe at the moment. I have the choice of spending a few thousand on this car, ie mags suspension etc.

Or save up for the Stagea. I just have a few questions. I'm currently looking at a series 2 manual.

I have heard the manual Series 2 stagea is better on fuel consumption than the series 1 auto, is this really the case. Is the series 2 much better on fuel than the series one.? Was wondering what figures series 2 owners were getting. I know if you can't pay for the fuel don't buy the car, still would like to know.

How are these cars reliability wise?

Anyway back to browsing

edit: i'm in canberra btw

hi mate, welcome!! the S2 is better on fuel... as i have an S1 i couldnt honestly tell you what kind of consumption you would expect ...but something to condsider is if you plan on modifying it then thats gonna change everything anyway ..and S1 with some good mods = similar price as S2 stock

Just my 2 cents

oh n whats the coupe you have and what mods where you thinkin of doing to it?

Lee

mazda mx6 2.5ltr v6. Was going to lower it put on 17's then perhaps put in a j-spec engine. But that's starting to get exxy considering its fwd, and performance isn't exactly crash hot.

Thats why I'm considering my options atm.

Well in our case...Bretts S2 is crap on fuel compared to my S1...i filled up before the sauwa car cruise and just filled up and i got 478kms to the tank from full to empty light on! I did give it some on the car cruise and have pushed it a little hard over some days but normally I never get to 100ks unless i go the freeway which is rarely so i normally have city driving of about 80ks most..with a shit load of stop starting!!

Just my 2cents but i think every stag is different :D

How bigga lode o shit do u use /100?

generally in the vacinity of 20L/100Km

if i can get a bit of freeway driving into it, i hav had as good as 14L/100Km

powerFC is the answer...come on i want another S2 manual guinea pig to compare things with.

ive got the power fc sitting at home, just gotta get around to fitting it/sorting out whatever issues it may have.

as soon as its in i'll book some dyno time with UAS and get it tuned

thx for the responses. How rare is a manual Stagea anyway? How many k's do most of you guys have on your cars?

Bit worried about the high mileage on the one im interested in.

i'm about to hit 180,000km, and also about to change to manual. car still goes fine, maybe head gasket should be replaced at 200,000 but nothing is leading me to believe anything is physically wrong with the engine. i've upgraded most parts i can without affecting the engine so that might have helped. i think the RB series are a strong engine.

Mine has just hit 121050km...i have done 1000ks since having her :O and i still get excited everytime i get into her :O

The ungentlemen on this forum could seriously misconstrue what you have just said. :)

nah nah its true :P i get really horny when i get in my stag :O now boys get your minds out of that gutter :O

On a serious note! Well. The general consensus, not just here, but global, is that Nissans NEVER break, they just wear out. After about 5 or6 hundred Ks.

Total FW drivers break Nissans.

FAAAAAAAARK. My S13 has comehome and I HAVE to get OFF my computer .

See you lateeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

    • What could be causing my clutch problem besides a bad master or slave then? Both those parts are new
    • Just came across this, but in QLD I start leave again in 2 weeks, if it is still available I might drive up and check it out Unless, @MBS206 do you live near here????, if so I could hit you up with a finders fee https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/hope-island/auto-body-parts/nc-mx5-factory-hard-top/1328976391
    • My hold point for future mods is that I want a OEM detachable hard top first, but, finding one is a pain, MX5 Mania are looking for one for me, but, as hens teeth are more common, finding one in Australia is proving problematic  I can get a OEM one from overseas, hell, you can still get new ones in 'Merica, but, shipping is a absolute killer and I cannot justify the cost, or the risk of it being damaged during transport As for the aftermarket hardtops, whilst they do the job of being a hard top, and are fine for a track car, they don't seal well (read: leak like a sieve in the rain), and you need a plastic/poly rear window, plus they are a bolt in option only and not made to be easily removed I liked how the hard top on my NB could be fitted, and removed, by myself, in less than 5 minutes I know it sounds bad, but I'm waiting for someone to write off a car with one so I can swoop in on their pain, it will go to a good home though, so my guilt of this is tempered
    • I’ve got one on mine and it’s fine,
    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
