Most of their products are genuine FRP products eg: East bear and not cheap copies. They are afterall a business out to make money like any business...ppl who have the cash still buy them...you get what u pay for at the end of the day. But if you smart shop..."some" of the stuff on there you can get cheaper elsewhere...:(

The other thing is that they actually pay import duties and GST on goods. And when I say "they", I of course mean "you".

Certain other brokers, who will remain nameless, do their best to avoid you having to pay said monies so the perceived cost is less and so their business increases. That's why they can afford to sell you stuff so much cheaper than PowerPlay, because they don't have the same "overheads".

The responsibility for meeting Customs requirements is up to you. You can try blame the broker for not telling you or including it in the purchase cost, but ultimately when the taxman goes hunting you will be the target.

Whether they will prosecute you for evading to payment of duties on top of making you pay what is owed to the government is something I am not quite as familiar with. You take your chances....

I would be over the moon if I could find the bonnet I wanted for a measley 2k. If you want good stuff you pay big money it's a fact of life i'm afraid.

There are some cheaper options i'm sure. Powerplay will also backup there products with after sales support and warranty. Can't say that for Joe blogs working out of his lounge room.

anDru - I highly doubt you have ever tried to import high quality expensive Japanese parts from Japan, so you really dont know what your talking about.

As an example like Sewid said, I would and will happily pay $2k for a genuine East Bear carbon bonnet from Powerplay. These bonnets in particular cost over $1000 AUD to buy in Japan, shipping is very expensive, then there is GST, import duty and all the other costs associated with legitimately importing parts in Australia.

You pay for what you get, one day you might figure that out.

If you want to pay $500 for some cheap ass flimsy fibreglass bar for your GTT go right ahead :) Nobody here will loose any sleep over it.

i got my kit from powerplay and the fit quality was amazing and the communication was so much better then the rest . Like most ppl have said you get what you pay for.

If you look under the gallery section on powerplayes website you will see heaps of pics of my car :)

Thank You guys, your support is much appreciated :)

I don't think I need to elaborate on anything that has already been said, everything that the guys have said is true.

Thanks again guys

Tosh

If you take Tosh out for a dinner and a movie I'm sure he can organise some sort of discount :):)

There's no place like the backseat of a Honda Accord muttering the words...isn't it nice when everything just works :)

:)

If you've ever seriously thought about importing a CF bonnet from Japan as well you'd know that getting one here is a huge roll of the dice.

They are far too large to come by post so must be put into a container. Even if packed right there is a big chance the corners or nose will be damaged or chipped and lets face it, you're not going to want to pay for it if it arrives broken.

Powerplay sort that for you and will take care that it's packed in the container right and that it will arrive in good condition for you to bolt on.

Tosh,

Can u PM me ur best price for the east bear LIP for the GTT with a standard front bumper delivered to Brissie 4113 as in the pics...

Thanks :)

No problems mate

Would you be able to email me please to the address in my signature. I have to go out for a while now so I'll be able to get back to you this afternoon.

Cheers,

Tosh

    • Hi everyone, I’m Dave from Canberra. Here's a few pics of my 1992 R32 GTST coupe which I imported back in 2006. Only mods so far are HKS Hi-power cat back exhaust, K&N filter, ATC Volanti steering wheel, Pioneer stereo, amp and sub. This was my daily driver up until 2015 and sadly hasn’t been driven at all in the last 5 years due to marriage, work, and kids taking up most of my time and spare cash.As such its in need of a bit of TLC and one of my goals for this year is to get it back to running condition and maybe look into club/historic rego. I’ve joined SAU so I can ask a few questions along the way (although I promise to google Current Problem +SAU beforehand!)
    • From talking to the mx5 guys the NC doesn't actually need bonnet vents like the earlier NA and NB models, due to a better designed cooling system and undertray design There's plenty of them used as street cars and weekend track toys running anywhere from around 170 to 250kw with stock non vented bonnets, I initially was going to get some bonnet vents, but, as they are not actually required, I'll put vents on hold for a while and just monitor temps, though I do need to get something to actually monitor engine oil temps though, coolant temp can be pulled from the OBD2, but the oil gauge in the car is not actual oil temp, it is only a calculation based off coolant temp and RPM ☹️ They do recommend upgrading the radiator, which I have already done with a triple pass, and the only other thing they recommend for a street car is heat management, like I talked about above to protect bits in the engine bay from radiant heat, and to either replace the nearly 20 year old plastic coolant expansion tank, which I have done, or get a aftermarket alloy jobbie for some bling They did also say that if I wanted to track the car on occasion a oil cooler and sump baffle would be required, and as I already have had a sump baffle installed when the engine was out......... I'm going to get a oil cooler with a thermostat....... just in case I do eventually track the car, but probably not, but still maybe...🤪
