Hi,

finally put in the HID kit into my R34, 8500k, thought was going to be stupidly blue but was pleasantly surprised, was actually ok.

But the light is still nothing special though, quite disappointed actually, and i think my headlights are pointing too far down. I've got the switch in the car that tilts the lights up and down, it does work, and i've got it as high as it will go but the light is still very low (angle).

Is there are a screw or something to manually life the anlge of light on 34 headlights?

cheers,

daniel

i found 1 screw which is running vertically behind the assembly, which then runs into this white plastic cog setup, i turned that but didn't do anything to the light angle.

When i had the head lights i did find another similar thing, but didn't have a philips head, it's was a hexagon shaped head but quite small, like maybe 5mm across??

when i was turning the screw one, it just started clicking on me after a bit too, like it was trying to do something, but it just wasn't happening.

also, HOW would it go up or down? It's bolted to the car in 4 different places... i can't really see it moving much...

man, compliance has seriously made the headlights just down right dangerous. so much for adhering to ADR's due to "safetey" reasons... what a load of bollocks :D

HID conversion kits in halogen reflectors suck (read: dont work like they should)

your headlights are oging to be screwed until you put halogen bulbs back in

also 8500k isnt brighter than 4300k

also the blue will make you tired on long drives

but i have the OEM Xenon assembly (see my sig pic), i thought it would be ok if put some Xenon's back in... it's hard to tell until i raise them up a bit i reckon..

i have heard retro fitting HID kits doesn't work, but i thought it would be different as mine were factory Xenon just replaced with halogen.

I know 8500k refers to colour, but was just worried bout the blueness, it's actually not as bad as i thought (or seen) -

i can't see how OEM R34 Xenons would make any difference to the light cut-off/shape? it's just a different bulb yeah?

Have you seen what the OEM xenons look like? They're a lot less "harsh" than HID Kits... it's very bright; but in a way which is non-intrusive. Dunno how they did it but my bet would be in the actual headlight assembly.

i might ring the mob in sydney who do the conversions, pick their brains. might take it down to a nissan dealer, see if they know anything about adjusting the angle. Says i can got to a dealer in my manual :D

if its factory xenon

it should work

do you know if they were they re-aimed for halogen bulbs?

What did I say in that Xenon thread!!!??? Nice light but too low and poor throw....

No one listens to me

went to nissan,

1) they don't sell nor can get in OEM Nissan Xenon globes :) -

2) they showed me two adjustment screws/cogs - 1 left/right, 1 for up/down (i'm not convinced my up/down works)

3) they said putting in Nissan globes wouldn't make a difference to light cutoff, they said if you've got Xenon globes in there, you've got Xenon globes in there.

i'm not convinced they knew much anyway...

is this what ppl's R34 Xenon headlights look like on the inside?

what is the cut-off like for OEM Xenon's anyway? is it as good as say the Honda Euro lights?

greg, you got the car mate!! PICSORBAN!!! i wanna see my rims :O

OEM xenons in reflectors wont have a cutoff

i mean the light cut-off thaka, if u see a honda Euro projector, there is a nice line. So it's either "light" or "no-light" there's no inbetween. Watch a OEM xenon car go down a small street one time, look at the side of the road, you'll see a nice clean cut-off, really noticable when it goes of speed bumps or something.

and how would one turn these? the closest one spins free like anything, the back one isn't too happy to move....

cog.jpg

the above cog (i used to turn with a flathead screw driver) adjust the Hi-beam up/down.

The screws on the far side of each assembly (closest to the front guards) control low-beam left/right but i haven't found anything adjusts the lo-beam up/down - i'm not sure if there is a manual adjustment for it as they have the electronic switch in the car.

does anyone know, definitively, that there is an MANUAL up/down adjustment for the lo-beam on R34 Xenon assembly's?

cheers,

daniel

  • 1 year later...

man i look young in this thread :(

the adjustments are there mate, i just can't remember where!! hahaha, we did find them when i had my car resprayed. Just hunt around, the white cogs are the hi-beam or side-to-side, and i think there are small "hex" bolts which are quite long, that adjust the low beam up/down

    • The cam I am actually putting in (a few posts up) is actually smaller than my current one. At least duration/overlap wise. All the chop stuff I hear just sounds like an engine running badly, because it is. I then envision driving it around in 1st gear and being massively sad about it bucking to the beat of said chop. There is an idle video of someone with a similar cam floating around the internet, but mine is a custom cam (so is his) so it'll never be the same, plus the fact exhausts are entirely different. What I want to do is put some bullet mufflers/race mufflers in to replace a couple sections straight pipes that currently replace the two extra cats that I don't need. But this is even further down the line!
    • I can tell you now, when the bracket that the little hydraulic ram attaches to snaps, with a subframe, and V8 from an AMG C63 on it, it sounds like someone letting shotgun off right beside you. It leaves your ears ringing, and a huge thankfulness that you never ever put a body part under something heavy that's only supported by a hydraulic lift...
    • Still not a guarantee fix. I used a high quality butyl-mastiq (the black goo that's not really silicone nor polyurethane, same stuff they use from the factory that just spreads out like melty cheese), and I still get lots of water on both sides of the trunk when raining or washing the car. I also suspect the factory spoiler rubber gasket might not be sealing well, so I'm thinking of adding a thin layer of grey silicone around the bolt holes on both sides and see if that's where it also leaks from. The biggest issue is that these cars don't come with a drain hole on each side like other coupes and hatchbacks.

    • Would seem to me to be appropriate to go GTR style bar. There are options with and without N1 vent holes, with the GTR lower lip integral (because FG copy). https://justjap.com/search?q=r32 bumper
