_crispy_
Hi, im new on this site but really look forward to learning a sh*t load about skylines! um, i no abit about CA18's and SR20's, but not alot about skyline motors, other than they sound fkn awesome! im lookin into buyin an R31 for my first car, and iv found one thats an RB30E that is about $2000...wat sorta mods should i b looking into doing to get more power, other than a turbo conversion...or, do u guys think that it would b more worth it dropping another turbo motor from the RB range into it with the money id spend on getting power out of an NA RB...could ppl giv me approximate costs for either scenario? thankyou very much, i look forward to spending many hours on skylinesaystralia.com, Crispy Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/130520-rb30e/ Share on other sites

the big JC
ok here goes don't go with a motor transplant there is a better option get a RB20 head and put the rb30 block which will give you a RB30DE DOHC instead of a RB30E SOHC which will have the capacity to create much more power than a RB20 or RB25 ever could, you can find the info on the conversion on the R31 club. some other mods you could do to the RB30E are .a mild cam (stage 1) will go straight in $300-$500 if you go with a more agressive cam (stage 2/3) you will have to get the lifter blocks machiened and run a piggy back ecu $1000-$2000 .loose the restricting air box and go with a pod filter and a cold air intake from the front of the car .extractors and a good free flowing exhaust $700-$1000 .get a PowerChip chip the claim to increase your power from 118kw to between 128kw and 134kw $490-$690 .a Ford XF throttle body they ar bigger and they are a common upgrade for the RB30 .a performance coil (MSD blaster) $70-$100 .a set of performance plugleads (TopGun are good)$70-$100 .a ignition controller (MSD 6A) $330 .get the head ported and polished with all that 160kw-200kw could be achievable Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/130520-rb30e/#findComment-2417612 Share on other sites
_crispy_
ok, thanks so far guys, keep the tips comin! probably a stupid question but wen u say 160-200kw, u mean at the motor dont u, not at the wheels right? thanks again, chris Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/130520-rb30e/#findComment-2419225 Share on other sites
paveway
ok well, forget putting an rb20 head onto a rb30 block, the rb20 head doesn't flow enough and the lines don't even line up either do rb25 head onto a rb30 block, or rb20 itself. i have no idea why so many people think you can put an rb20 head onto a rb30 block on this forum Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/130520-rb30e/#findComment-2422278 Share on other sites
R31Nismoid
RB20 head on the RB30 block... Biggest waste of money and time. This is 2006, not the mid 90's when people didnt know better. And to say it will make more power up top and RB20/RB25 is totally inaccurate. www.r31skylineclub.com All the info is there, if you wanna turbo, N/A or supercharge it. Its all there Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/130520-rb30e/#findComment-2422787 Share on other sites

blue_leaf
Why wouldnt rb20 head flow less then Rb30 one - is it cause of the much smaller valves? Does anyone have any numbers on this? blue_leaf
you wouldnt have any CFM figures for either of the heads or the sizes of the valves? Do you know the size of the combustion chambers of either? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/130520-rb30e/#findComment-2442231 Share on other sites
