I have R34 GTT. ATM in workshop and hoping for 270rwkw and 300rwkw with NOS. Any thoughts and ideas on the MSD unit? Is it worth while or should i get splitfires instead. I should really ask if any of them is neccasary at these power levels?

not really crucial at that power level. I had 260rwkws with std coil packs and no dramas whatsoever. I dont know how much a new set of std packs are but splitfires are only like 500 bux i think and for a replacement set they do the trick well. Then they are new and dont have to worry about any ignition problems being related to coilpack failure down the track.

However a stronger spark never hurt anyone, except the plug. If you are looking at more upgrades down the line then perhaps its worth getting now, and if the money is literally falling out of your pocket then hey, why not?

as bhdave stated, it comes down to the condition.

mine are worn, Waiting for my splitfires in the post now, cost me $540 from Japan, alot of shops retail for around $800 +

What ecu u running

And the more spark the Better mate

The idea of a DIS 4 is the MULTIPLE SPARK IT produces. If you test it the standard ignition with produce 1 strand of spark while the discharge Boxes produce multiple on the same plug,The more Spark you have the more fuel you burn the more power you make.

I say change coils for now so you dont have to run minimal gap on the plugs and when you make over 400 kw upgrade to the dis 4

im running power fc. I surpose a stronger spark wouldnt hurt. the splitfire and msd unit i can get for the same price. It it relli comes down to what is better suited for my application. Any ideas as to if it is a big job in geting the msd system hooked up? I read a brief description and it sounds quite abit. If so then it might ended up costing alot more the splitfires...which i can install myself!

its very easy

just read the instruction manual and you shouldnt have a problem

but you gotta remember

the Dis 4 only runs 3 in and outputs

so this will suit a wasted spark setup

if you dont wish to run your ignition this way you might get M & W coils and CDI units which i dont recommend in your application as they are VERY expensive
