I've had a read of the thread on what to look out for before buying a Skyline, but have no access to a hoist to check the undercarriage. Also, i'm not too sure if there is anything wrong with the engine by just looking at it and not being able to do a compression test, have a look at the turbo etc.

I checked out an r32 gts-t type-m that i really like today, took it for a drive and found that it had no noticeable problems. I just want a second (professional) opinion to ensure that if i do buy it, i'm not going to get a lemon.

I guess that if anyone in this forum knew enough aobut r32's could help, i could organise a slab or something for your time. The car is located in the eastern suburbs.

Otherwise, would a pre-purchase inspection done by a mechanic like RACV, VACC or privateer be worthwhile?

Any help would be much appreciated!

i would of told you to get RAC check aswell, but to be honest i think they just check cosmetics. MY mate bought a CA18 S13 and had it RAC checked first, after a few months he had leakin gaskets, corroded exhaust pipes, and the car was only running on 3 pistons. To me it seems like internals are what you would be most worried about as you cant check them yourself. so i dunno what the RAC check.

mind saying that i still wouldnt buy a car without having them check the stuff they do :S

Seeing as you mentioned racv, im assuming you live in victoria.

Dont bother with RACV inspection I say. They charge $300 for a r32 and reading about the responses on the forum they dont seem to do a good job.

Take it to any of the recommended workshops listed in the Victoria section.

The workshops i have taken the car to pre-inspection can be found here:

Most import workshops will charge $100-$150 and will provide an honest inspection. I just received my r32 two days ago so I have just past the whole pre-inspection saga.

If you have any more questions just ask :O
