The same as buying a GTR with the same kms, I would factor the rebuild into the budget, if you can do that then it would be a good buy. If the price is already on the limit of finances then you could be pushing your luck hoping it will be ok. That's how I would look at it anyway!

Looking around the same price as higher km R33 GTRs so seems about right to me, as Alex mentioned, prices probably won't go up... If you can find one or two around this range there will be more.

Cheers

Luke

if there has been a few around 1.4M Y, there is going to be more, so dont just get sucked into these deals guys :O

dunno how buying the car now is getting sucked in... but still.

the guys at the office spend all day scouring all sources available for the odd bargain, and if you're a serious buyer you should jump on em. The average price range of a 260RS is about 1.6 to 2.4 million yen, we could list lots of em in the average price range if you guys want (check the auction sale price history on em for a realistic idea)... but the whole point of the mailing list is to show people the rare ones that come up at lower than market value. Sure they might not be the same price in the future (depreceation and things sorta tend to do that) but right now that car's a bargain.

If you're genuinely interested in the car, then you should contact either Craig or Ben and they'll be able to field any questions you may have, rather than go by speculation

funkymonkey and all the jspec guys, dont take everything that everyone says in relation to jspec cars as insults or critisism

as far as i am concerned all you are are advertisers for cars from japan, no different to prestige, imports101 or even mr zhongfeng importer man around the corner.

sure I understand if someone comes on and says "OMFG JSPEC IS SHIT THEY BLOW GOATS", sure rebutt to that.

as far as "getting sucked in", i mean, dont be like, "oh my god, this is the one and only 260rs that is ever going to sell for this cheap omg omg omg" and put money into it before putting in your research. For example, you've had two 260rs's around 24-26k landed/complied in the last few weeks, so if there are two that you could find, there must be more.

The Stagea is my first foray into the world of RB engines, so I dont know a lot about their reliability, except that they seem to have plenty.

So how is 129K considerd high k's?

I know that in peoples "I'm in the market to buy" mind, that 200K seems to be a threshold but 120K in todays modern engine is just past well run in.

My Toyota 7MGE was sold with 400K on the clock and still orginal except for two head gaskets. Then again it was only pushing out 150KW.

Alex probably most of us here "advertise cars from Japan" because of the uniqueness of it. So probably its like a religion you know. Different from others who their cars which they bought locally doesnt stands out.

Low mileage cars are good in a sense but doesnt necessary be good. For an example i have a friend who always buy new cars for his own use but he trash the shit out of it. On time service and everything but personally i wouldnt by his car. The other side of the coin whos like me high milage cars (my lancruiser) almost 200k no visible oil leaks anywhere on the car. Why i took care of it really good.

We just have to be carefull and "lucky" i guess not to purchase a bad unit. And im not braggin about myself all my good friends will buy my car when its up for sale. They know that the car has been taken care off even though if its high milage.

High milage cars in certain ways are good and bad it depends where the car is. For an example i wouldnt not buy cars that have a high mileage on the speedo why? Cos in city high mileage is worse off than a outstation high mileage cars. Or even a low milage cars in city driving and a high milage outstation cars. Its a bet but most probably outstation cars are by far better in terms of been taken care of ETC.

I could be wrong but thats just my opinion. Ohh i might add that one of my uncle got a onld mercs W124 280E Auto. i think its na 88" and its done only 70k. Problems all over why? in city driving. Now that tells you something isnt it. The reason is in city driving constant stop and go (1st ,2nd and 3rd gear and lots of brakings. Compared to outstation cars or highway constant 100kmh and constant rev. Now tell me which car is better off if just comparing the situation they are in stop and go traffic like in city? or a car that travbles on highway most of the time?

I hope this helps you :)

see jasevr4, i WOULD consider buying it. The 10k saving over a good condition stocker is a big saving to me, justifing a rebuild/work on it.

But thats because i WOULD rebuild/work my stagea anyway, if it was good condition or not.

The only reason I wouldnt buy that car is if I WASNT planning to do any work on it. For example, just buy it and drive around as is.

I guess right now i am in the position to be able to afford to buy any bargain that came my way just because I already have 2 cars (Camry and current stagea) so if i bought a third, it wouldnt bother me for it to be off the road for a month more getting a rebuild.

It depends what your budget/goal is.

I am trying to find one with a blown engine or something terminal like that, but not sure if that could get through SEVS

wheni first emailed j-spec they didnt reply I ended up having to ring. Had also emailed prestige but decided to go with j-spec due to the rude reply from prestige telling me that i was being too picky asking about a mark on the dash of a cheap stagea

    • @soviet_merlin Thanks mate!  Nothing too major but will hold me up for a while. I've got lymphomas to get taken off the back of my neck and the middle of my spine which always conjures scary thoughts!  It sounds worse than it is. Yeah great, conjuring more rabbit hole deepening , just what I need! 🤣
    • I'd argue the F50 kit I got is very good value. For ~2k I got the calipers (refurbed condition), adapters, pads, brake lines, rotors, and top hats. I think you'd be pretty hard to get Evo/GTR/350z brembos + the additional hardware for similar money. Used market for a pair of front calipers alone I've seen tend to run anywhere from $1500-2000 depending on condition.    That said, something like a GTR or 350z brembo is a lot easier to adapt to the Silvia.
    • Is there a significant price difference between the Evo/gtr/350z brembos vs the F50? Looks amazing.
    • I was actually being a tightarse at the time LOL... My OCD is tickling me into running a 2nd 8AN Teflon hose all the way down and removing the 2x OEM hardlines. My other side of my brain is telling me to run 2x hardlines front to back (also acts as a fuel cooler, so win win).
    • As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had some trouble with the Silvia's brakes dragging back in 2023. I managed to sort it out then, but the same problem came back to bite me late last year. Just take a look at the picture – I had a feeling the handbrake was acting up again, and I was right. Anyway, I'd been wanting to upgrade to bigger brakes for a while. Not that the Silvia's brakes were bad, but it was more of a "want" than a "need", you know? It was funny, though – at the time, I couldn't find any Evo Brembos, 350Z Brembos, or GTR Brembos for a decent price (of course, tons of them popped up online after I already bought my kit!). I ended up going with an F50 Brembo kit, which came with adapters, brake lines, 330mm rotors, and top hats. The F50 Brembo caliper was used in a few other cars too, like the FPV. I also decided this was the perfect opportunity to ditch the Silvia's ridiculous rear brakes and that awful handbrake (some of you were definitely right about that!). I picked up some R33 calipers and all the necessary bits – rear drums, backing plates, and new hardware to refurbish the calipers. Of course, it wouldn't be a project without a few hiccups. Turns out the brake master cylinder was playing up and basically (to put it simply) keeping the brakes engaged. I had it overhauled, and after some adjustments, everything was working again. The whole process took a while, as you can imagine. To top it off, the front right wheel bearings were shot and needed replacing too. This is a rare occasion where I'm posting an update while it's all still fresh! These pictures were taken just this afternoon.
