fark this is funny

obviously most of the people on here know f**k all about repairing a damaged car

i work with panel beaters all day pulling out dashes and SRS systems

so these kinds of repairs can be carried out

chassis rails bend easily when a car is hit from the front

and there is nothing wrong with doing a section repair or "cut and shut" as its commonly known

insurance companies authorise these repairs everyday

the new nissan muranos and maximas have piss weak rails

and they have to be repaired like this all the time

personally ive seen 2 done like this in the past month

both cars were perfect afterwards

dude good luck on your project

dont listen to what clueless people have to say

its all a bit bizarre for me ..any car that had this sort repair that turned up at my RAWS workshop for compliance would be knocked back and thrown in the bin as an accident car ..yet once its here you can weld 2 cars together and tell the punters its better than new :mad:

Dont really wanna knock you work bud - Im sure your doing an excellent job. But i too heard about things like this being illegal. There have been many stories on 60 minutes, current affairs etc about people buying 2 cars for the price of one .. or so to speak. Always best to check it out before you do do it. But hey, if nothing works out, you will have one slick machine for the track :mad:

hey guys, sorry been away at the snow :D

firstly cut and shut is NOT illegal in NSW, i have to goto RTA inspection before i register the car to check my repairs/strength etc.

Silent i will not be doing verticle welds as i previously said ive unpicked it from a factory join under the firewall to do my join.

The strength of the car is the same, as all my measurements are back to factory by using the car-o-liner

As for the cost of this job for me

ill have my car registered on the road for 9g.. believe it or not, does not bother me.. ( but remember im doing alot of labour )

The thing i cant understand is if this is so "dangerous" as others have put it, how the hell do hot rods, utes, limos etc which have had an altered chassis mods still get rego and drive on the street??

I assume everything in this case will be strengthened and done properly

in all seriousness PPL ge real stop trying to rain on his parade. You wanna see dodgy go Inspect the imports u got fresh from those Parramatta road STEALERSHIPS Hes got a trade and knows what hes doing

I do the same shit to motorbikes. i could get a nice newish bike for 6-7K on the road with aftermarket goodies instead of 11-12K its a no brainer but it takes time and opportunity must be present!

ATM im travelling in dec so saving my moneys for Os shenanigans. Soon as i get back im doing the SAME to an R32 GTR given the opportunity. Hell one went for 4K at the auctions with light front end damage! . prob on the road for a touch under 9 and thats with a full respray!! a FKN GTR. it was pimp. had a little front end damage! wouldnt even mind an gtst.. we'll see what presents

good on you braadz......to all of you Wankers that wouldnt know a good job from a bad one or think there car hasnt been wacked up your kidding yourself....radiator supports/chassis rails and back panels have most likely been changed on about 70% of your vehicles and the irony of it is that you guys wouldnt know but i am tipping that your local panel shop would pic it in the blink of an eye.....On the flip side my idea of an exceptional job is where the tradesman himself cant even see what he has done......This also happens alot....therfore noone would even know whats been done.......And all you guys talking about metal strengths ect.....I bet you guys wouldnt know how to identify the tools used in such a job let alone drive the fkn things.....the idea is to take it off PAST the damaged point....good on you braadz keep up the good work mate

Good on you mate, It is clear that you have alot of pride in your work and that you will do a good job.

i recently bought a R32 with front end damage and rust. Bought it for $3000. Replaced the radiator support and rear quater panels. Ended up putting GTR quaters on. The repairs are not as extensive as yours but were done properly and i have no fear of driving the car as i am confident in my panelbeaters work. If you are confident in your own ability you go for it. Alot of people are nieve in thinking their cars have not had repairs, and would not know if they had if they were done well. I see alot of imports come through my workshop and most have had at least minor panel repairs. Good luck, and hope to see it on the road soon.

most panel beaters will swear by their work.....so i have no doubts that you know ur stuff and confident in the repairs...but for me personally...seen one too many accidents where cut n join cars split in 2 in a road accident....sends shivers down my spine....not that it isnt possible on factory cars ...but if i knew the car i was driving had that many repairs done to it...will be to scared to enjoy driving it.

As long as the car is done meeting all legal requirements, the car will not just split in two. As mentioned earlier; there is a right way and a wrong way. This appears as if it is being done properly.

    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all!     • Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.

    • When I was replacing my pump due to being stranded in the wrong state, I went with the Deatschwerks 320lph kit. It is a direct plug in to the stock wires, harness, everything.
