Hey,

Has anyone had a run with a HSV COUPE (GTS or GTO).

I was driving down Epping Road yesterday and had a Yellow HSV COUPE scream past me...

I can't tell which one it was as it was badged.

It was either the 255 kw or 300 KW job (probably the 255, hence the reason why he badged it).

Ohh did I mention he was on his P's. hahah Big bloke in the car (just looked funny). My first thought was he had been done for speeding and lost his license or somethoing like that.

So anyways had a little run and he couldn't pull away from me...

I also noticed when the corner got a little tight he couldn't hold the car in the lane and it started skipping (I guess you could say) into the next lane...Where moine just sat very flat on the road..

Regards

LOL.

I had a quick run with a GTS 300kw sedan one night.

I've got to say that it sounded really nice.

Anyway, the old 3rd gear got him :) I pulled away in the mid/high 3rd gear. I didn't scream away from him, but it was pulling away.

At that stage I only had a 3 inch exhaust, pod and 12psi boost.

I've run a 255kW Clubsport R8, and I have to say it was pretty damned close - dead level actually, except after ~160 I pulled away (until I hit the limiter). Mind you, it didn't sound like it had the stock exhaust on it so maybe it had slightly more power than stock, maybe it didn't, I dunno.

I had a play with the 300kW Monaro a couple of months ago too. Unfortunately I was on the 'Blade though - the Skyline would've probably been more fun. Anyway, he had me level pegged in the corners (cos I'm a wuss) but on the straights it was like kicking a puppy :P The bloke was pretty cool, he gave me a bit of a wave and a smile, and even kicked it out a little bit as he took his turnoff... wicked :(

At a track day a while back, on the twisty bits I was all over the GTO's. Had more corner speed and could brake a lot later than them. There were about 3 of them. Coming on the straight though, they've got torque and plenty of it.

PFC should fix that problem now.

He He so the old 3rd eh ... funny about that as thats usually when my LS1 does its best work

I don't usually get a look in in 1st gear usually start to match em in 2nd and 3rd is when it all happens for me the gen 111's start to hunt em down.

The Skyline is a very nice car guys so is the humble Commie, its been a learning experience perusing your Forums.

Cheers :burnout:

Could someone please explain to me why Mel always gets picked on by Commodores. Wollongong was a great example last friday night. We were just out for a cruise after dinner at Stanwell Park and looking for a Mobil servo down there and all we got was clowns after a piece of her. Look out the day she decides enough is enough,,,theres gonna be some very pissed off aussie muscle. Then again,,,I should stop having 3 beers at dinner,,,cause I won't put up with that crap.

Neil.

beware of a black commy monaro getting around sydney as the last time i was at 'the creek' there was one running around a flat 12 or high 11 (around this - my memory fails me at times). either way it was quicker than any skyline was on that particular night

it looked quite std but didn't sound it.

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
