Hey guys

Got my new weekend blast today, bought a brand new 2006 Yamaha TTR-230 Enduro bike!!! I had a RM125 a while back so this is a step up!

Went for the TTR cos Its a good entry level Enduro bike cos I wanna get into trail riding!! Much better than getting dicked by the Po lice. I also chose the new TTR230V cos I could by a complianced one, meaning I can ride it on the road as a normal bike which makes it easier for me to ride it out to the bush without having to chuck it on a trailer or Van!

Got a whole heap of crazy gear as well, Thor Pants, fox helmet, boots, pads, gloves and a Shift jersey!! Cant WAIT to get out there and ride.

Gets delivered to me on Wednesday next week, Just wondering if there are any other guys on here that enjoy riding!

This is what I got!

Nice work!!!

I've been riding trail bikes for about 2-3 years and it is the best way to clear your mind. So much fun. Just forget about everything and it's just you and the trail. Great way to unwind, unless if you have a big stack...

I've got a Yamaha too but I bought mine for almost the opposite reason. Mine only has recreational registration because it's only $60 a year which allows you to ride on any trail that is not a 'main road' in vic. I had a trail bike road registered but rego came for $360 a year and i thought stuff that, rec reg for me.

But yeah almost completely opposite. it's a 2003 YZF450. basically a track bike but I have found that it's still great on the trail even with only a 4 speed gearbox. It has 55kW standard and I have put a mellow/quite pipe on it and a 8 ounce flywheel weight to smooth out the power. otherwise say goodbye to your arms, the bike will rip them off your body. It pulls mono's in every gear up till about 80-90 but when do you need to go 100 in the bush!!! 80 is fast enough. but yeah. I'll attatch a pic. Now... where are you going to ride? I recommend buying 2 books. weekend warriors 1 and 2. Shows all the good places to ride around melb. Enjoy it!

The other pic was when me and some mates were mucking around in a mud pit. I spend 7 hours cleaning it afterwards!!!

You can get the book from most dirt bike shops. Where are you from? I'm in Doncaster East and I go to ringwood for all my spares. The books will be in some of the shops there. I bought mine from Bikemart and I get all my spares from Scotty's dirt bike spares.

I always regret selling my bike, I had a brand new YZ250F which was my first bike and surprise surprise, I came off a few times, the last time I smashed my wrist into pieces and was off work for 2 1/2 months. No income and a recovering wrist, I sold my bike to get some money in the bank after becoming very poor

Maybe one day I will buy another bike, and steer clear of motocross tracks :stupid:

Love your bike Starion, you should have a ball!

Russell, you look like you can ride pretty well for a limited time on bikes. I was way too soft to attempt to pop a mono

LOL too right, was a big mistake thats for sure. Never the less a good lesson.

Recreational rego sounds ok, would be interesting to see where abouts there is to ride, as my other bike I had when I was in QLD, and around the gold coast, the only places to ride legally were few and far between

Best of luck with the new bike Starion :stupid: Go the Yamies

I came off going about 60-70 k's easter last year and broke my ankle. I had a pin put in it and I've got a nice scar to show for it! I was off work for a month but I had heaps of leave and that just covered it.

It's all about riding within your capabilities and pushing it just a little bit to improve without stacking hard!

Heaps of great places to ride around melbourne. HEAPS!

I beleive Troy AKA ylwgtr2 has ridden a dirt bike or two as well.

I had a YZ80G back in high school and used to ride it with his little brother along the maribyrnong river. From memory Troy was VIC 80cc champion and rode at the MCG at one of if not more than one of the supporting events? He was probably 16-17 at that stage. KX if I recall.

The YZ blew up and I sold it off. Ten years down the track and I still havent got another. But to this day I still remember like it was yesterday the thrill I had of riding it.

Have fun guys and stay safe. If I can say one thing, its that safety gear works!

What boots have you got?

I would love a pair of Alpinestar Tech 10s even Tech 8s but I just cant afford them!!!

I got a pair of $300 black Fox Boots, but I was considering getting a pair of Blue O'NEAL boots cos it matched my bike colour and the bloke said they were pretty much the same quality boot, what do you reckon! Also is there any Dirtbike forums/clubs going around cos I cant seem to find any!

Go the fox boots. I have some old fox ones. Well know brand. O'neal would still do the job fine though.

There is so much mark up on brand name boots. $300 mark is good quality without the big name tag and price!

I just ride with mates but there are heaps of people that run tours. might be the way if you don't have many people to ride with. Never ride alone if you can help it. don't want to get stranded! Check out trail bike magazines. Bit of info about tours and club rides etc. but yeah I just ride with mates, I've never done a tour or club event.

I have a pair of Gaerne SG10's which I want to sell. Bought them brand new and used them for 3 months.

I am around size 11 - 12. These boots set me back around $450-500, best I could afford at the time and damn comfortable. I liked the Tech 8's and 10's but found them to be have a very thin profile. Bit too tight around the tops of feet if ya know what I mean :D

Link to boots ;)

I still wonder if I should sell them though lol, such an awesome boot. Maybe I should keep em just incase I buy another bike in the near future :D

There are always people wanting second hand riding gear for when they're just starting. Mine are getting a bit worn out and if they were size 10 i'd be interested. Ebay might be a good spot to offload them if you want a bit of cash back...

I've got a yz250f. Stuff 2 strokes there fun whilest there going but when there not! I've had mine for a few years now and had no issues apart from fork seals. Yours should go for ages with no probs.

How many guys ride or have access to bikes in sau vic. We should go thrash around the bush for a day.
