will do.

i have a few prototype displays available. these are functionally the same as the normal displays, and will be firmware upgradable etc like the others, main difference is they come without the black box/enclosure (which may suit people as the LCD alone is much slimmer to mount somewhere.

$175 + post (express 7, registered 10). If you dont want the integrated consult interface, then you can minus $10 off that. add $6 if paying by paypal. i can also supply display with leads for you to hook up your own buttons (rather than using the ones on board). cable lengths can be whatever you want.

see http://www.ecutalk.com latest news post for more info, and a couple more pics

Peter,

is it true that this consult/LCD and your previous consult box dont work with a powerfc? They only work on the stock nissan ECU?

Any ideas on what you can use to get data from a powerfc -> carputer (via serial), which wont cost an arm + a leg?

thats right, consult is a nissan thing, if apexi implemented it then they might have visits from nissan lawyers :D

look into fc datalogit (or something to that effect). i think paulr33? has compiled some form of powerfc faq somewhere which might have info on it, not sure.

i can actually make 1-2 prototype ones, with the normal black enclosure, except it will just need a bit of black tape on ends to ensure it doesnt pop open (shouldnt anyway, but just to be sure).

gap1.jpg

you can see how theres a bit of a gap where the bits join. it would be $190+post for that

the next batch, im considering changing straight away to a 20x4 setup (rather than doing another lot of 40x2 characters setup same as this one) which isnt as long, has buttons on front, and would fit in a DIN slot (<50mm high) if required. eg 125x45mm (rather than 188x39mm like current one). price of next lot would be determined by how much the plastic enclosures cost, maybe around $220 mark? theyll be as cheap as i can make them, cause everyone should have one!

the next batch will be, at this stage, around september mark.

Love your work man. Put me down as a definite for your September run. A 20x4 screen sounds good too.

I reckon this thing is a good reason to go piggyback - i'm gonna love having one to go with my e-manage ultimate.

Actually..... PM sent.

september, october, november maybe...these things always take longer than you want them too

just about to start redesign of PCB for version 2. enclosure design is part way there too.

  • 1 month later...

the main part needed to run the display wont be available till ~12 dec (at current estimates by supplier). so i guess thats a rough aim for me to have all the hardware done and ready by.

then its just a matter of how many features can be put in before a limited (or full) release.

if i can get the firmware updating working fine (ie you can update firmware on unit yourself like you would with a adsl modem or computer bios) then ill be able to get them out sooner than later.

ive already bought 30 lcd modules, and probably have half the parts needed for the boards already. need to finish off design of PCB and get some prototypes made, hopefully by start of next month. then need enclosures done...once enclosures are ready, final pcb to be manufactured/assembled (hopefully wont need to do most of assembly myself), and then a lot of work on the firmware (the stuff that runs the display)

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps
    • Does anyone run this kit with factory plenum? Does the adapter and bosch tb fit under factory strut brace? I wanted to get this setup before going forward facing manifold. Thanks
    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
