Why bother explaining these things to narrow minded 'car enthusiasts', who most probably have never driven a HSV, let alone a VE HSV??

I have a 180sx and have recently bought a VX Clubby. The simple fact is there are no direct competitors, bar FPV, for what these cars are designed to do for under $150k. Simple.

A big car that is quick, comfortable, looks good (personal opinion), can carry five 6 foot plus adults in complete comfort for under 200k. Damn good value in my opinion. And they sound great too :P

I'll bet it's surprisingly good on fuel too. Narrow minded prejudice about V8s is pathetic, and the arguements are outdated and wrong.

They are cheap as to mod, intake, exhaust and tune and you are looking at 250+rwkW. Do a cam change and you are looking at 300+rwkW. Turbo for $7k + fitment and you are looking at 400+rwkW.

They run low 12s on 18" street tyres with bolt ons and 250rwkW. They are cheap and extremely reliable. The VZ Clubby is capable of 1.10s around Wakefield with soft tyres. Also it can tow, it can carry 5 adults comfortably, both at once if required.

What can do all that for the money?

Looking at it again. I think Id rather an SS. Its those rear lights. They flow WAY better on the SS. It stuffs the lines sooo bad on this.

I wouldnt mind taking one for a test drive though. If what was on that program the other day is true (at least with the suspension) it should be a pretty good car to drive. I think build quality MIGHT be the only let down, but with $500mill in new robots etc, I cant see that being a major issue for the price of the car.

i remember when the first shots of this new holden were released someone on here said "dont knock it till you actualy see it in real life because it looks pretty hot"

well to whoever that person is, THEY ARE EVEN WORSE IN REAL LIFE, worst sedan i have seen come out of holden in along time

..........i dunno if its just me but for 1 billion dallars i think they should have come up with something a little more original.

cant wait for the new fords

They may be nice cars tech wise, ill admit. I love the sound of a holden V8, and love it when the rare chance comes that i can drive one, but as far as looks go its pretty unorignial. But i guess as time goes by, its getting harder and harder to do something that hasnt been done similarly on another vehicle.

Im glad they re-introduced wheel flares, as the VTs etc looked crap mainly cos of that lack of the muscley look the falcons had cos of the little bit of shape the BAs and AUs etc had around the wheel arches. But i think theyve gone too far, andyep. Very mazda. PLus random other styling cues.

new hsv gets body styling parts bin -

flared guards by MAZDA 3 sedan

roofline by AU falcon

Headlights by BA falcon

RIMS by F6 typhoon

Shit the whole CAR looks like a mazda 3 sedan...

You know fellas I'm old school as they come. Being a V8 guy my whole life I'm still kinda partial to them.

You can say what you want about the Chev and ford errr I mean holden. THey are cheap to mod. esp in the states. As for being a dinosuar bro all I have to say to you is "King of the Hill"

For those that don't know what that is look up ZR1 Corvette it was a quad cam 5.7L that redlined at 7000rpm. If I rememeber correctly was over 400+hp out of the box and that was back late 89 to 95.

But they did do a quad cam V8. the reason it dint take off was cost. Technology is there just depends how much you wanna pay.

As for me I like the HSV new line is it my fave nahhhh I'm a vette man. But I've had my fun with the V8 just not the King of the Hill. I love fast cars no matter who makes them.

And to all you V8 haters.......

Dont hate the playa hate the game :ninja:

haha i just looked in the other thread with the pics of the 'new' evo and it looks like this HSV... so to the people who said they like the look of the EVO they must like this car aswell....

You guys have ripped the shit out of this car! Its not that bad, wow they have gone for a differnt style! You can get any car and say its made up of similar designs and lines to another car.

Get over it, look beyond the fact that it is a Holden.. It looks good (in those pics anyway) :ninja:

the LT5 motor is still used today in boat racing

altho i dont c how it costs so much when other companies had quad cam v8's already

With the size of our cars in the states weight would not be that much of factor. Besides you gain soooo much more have a the quad cam anyway. It was just cost. That I can remember. The minute you say corvette price of parts doubled, minute you say ZR1 man that was special order. Then the brass at GM said it was too expensive to keep making them and no one buying them.... so it was cut.

As for boats there is still afew out there.

I personally love the 427BB 7.0L for you guys with accents :ninja:

It looks like a patchwork quilt. Bits and pieces of all the cars on the road today slapped together with a big donk under the bonnet. It just doesn't flow.

Man the lines flow on the proper car. They flow from the front lip of the front bar all the way to the rear. (hsv exempted) You cant say it doesnt flow. You just dont like holden, so you dont want it to flow. I've looked very closely at it again and again, but sure as heck, it flows!

Spot on mate.

It's fuel economy is not that bad, especuially after a re-tune. It's downfall is city driving, it mows petrol then, but no worse than a GT-R, RX-8 etc. It get about 9l/100km on the freeway.

I think its always been like this with the 8's.

My old VS 5ltr 5speed would get around 16l/100km's locally then on the open road a whopping 9.2L/100km's.

The Commodore range looks good as, the SS especially. It might be the pics i've been looking at of the HSV but the taillights look out of place, seems as though the only changed them for the sake of being different to the commodores. I should have been clearer when i said "it doesn't flow", I was referring to the front and rear of the car.

The Corvette Z06 with the lS7 7L makes 500hp stock and revs to 7k. Fastest poduction car around Nurburgring for a while this year. Only US$65k (IIRC). Makes 500rwhp with bolt ons. Runs 11.6 stock. Would run a 10 with bolt ons. And on street tyres. Awesome, awesome car.

i dont like the new commodore simply for the fact that is enormigitastically big, i mean with todays roads in aus, traffic is a huge problem, as is space, and giving people a 2tonne weapon which no doubt will have bad vision spots all around the car, especially reversing, just seems stupid to me, fine make it roomy, but gee' the old commodores were roomy and alot smaller

and on another note, does the hsv coupe signature look like a giant holden calibra to any one else? and the commodore just looks like an oversized vectra

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
