Places To Go

Just wanting to know if anyone here as a good route to go for a drive on. Something that would take say a few hours on nice Saturday?

I mean I usually just drive to Sydney or to the western suburbs but does anyone know other places to go?

you could go from belco out through the cotter and down to tharwa, that would take at least an hour there and and another back.

down the clyde to the bay, fush and chups, adventurous drive back up the hill

just head down the coast then up and down the highway all. is barrels of fun. saun, lee and others will know what im on about....hehehe!

I agree with Simon, start at Coppins Crossing and go all the way down through the Cotter to Tidbinbilla, then keep on going past Tharwa to Honeysuckle (Canberra's BEST ROAD) and if you still want more you can move onto Ororal Valley.

most of the day? bateman's via the clyde, on to bega and across to cooma via brown mountain. smile for the camera before the crest of a hill near bega sorry can't remember how far but it's open country so speed at your own peril.

Hmm.. I occasionally kill some time out on Coppin's Crossing and Uriarra road. Doesn't take that long, but it's fun. Comes to an all-too-abrupt stop though when the road suddenly becomes a dirt track.

I love the twisty stuff towards the end of the run. Out there is where I found the spot I got the photos i'm using as my sig & avatar. On the downside, my front bar always ends up splattered with former insect lifeforms.

Got a couple of days off now... Might have to check out some of these other suggestions

by Honeysuckle creek, you mean Apollo Rd. and yes, it one of the better roads around. but BE CAREFULL!!! if you dont know the road well, it can catch you out in a bad way and it could all end in tears, or worse...

i know the road quite well and i still am carefull when driving along it. its not the smoothest either, and with coilovers (or any stiff suspension setup), one bump can throw you off line and into the wall or off the cliff face!!! also, many bike owners know of it too, and those boys often get up there and have a go...

i have quite a scary tale of a cruise which happened along there a couple of years ago with the R31 club boys. i've told it before (i think...), so if you wanna know how bad and easy it is to loose it up there, ask me the next time you see me....

but i reckon it is Canberra's true touge, and if you make a quick pass along it, your doing bloody well for your self!

That was almost a very very memorable day, and not for good reasons. As Luke says, don't take that road lightly.

Apollo Rd used to be great before the bushfires. After the fires the edges of the road has curled up and the trucks heading out that way have torn the road up quite a bit compared to what it used to be. Really wish they would fix it up to its former glory.

Still a great drive, just be careful as everyone else said or it will end in disaster (and with no mobile reception its a long way to walk if you prang your car).

Honeysuckle is the tracking station at the end of Apollo Road, sorry for the mix up.

Agree with above.....speed at your own risk man....first time I went up there in the FTO I almost got airbourne at one unexpected very sudden dip.

There's also a cattle grate 3/4 of the way up so watch out for that!

Beautiful views too on your way up....would make for an awesome video clip if you did it right.
