craz0, id check ur insurance contract, namely the details of disclosure. the wording will vary from company to company, but the gist is about as follows-

if u dont tell us about things which make ur car faster, more attractive toi thieves, illegal(according to your state laws, ie zorst, bov, rim size) then we dont pay fo your crash/theft etc.

the best thing u can do is make sure that

a: all your mods are legal

b: they are approved by the insurance coy

c: if not strictly legal, see if u can get them engineered to be so

d: the insurance ciy is informed of any and all mods

doing this will save a lot of hassle and possible heartache in the future, cause we dont want u to end up as another one of those 'the insurance company wouldnt pay when i wrote off my car cause my whels were an inch too wide' stories...

nb: faaaaaaaaaaaark! lucky cheap quoted bastard!!!

I have an exhaust now Prank :D

and a strut brace...and a pod! LOL

it all takes time...I've only had the car 2 years :bahaha: :bahaha:

As for Suncorp and mods, as far as i was aware they allow a certain amount, but not unlimited. Will have to pull out my booklet thingy and find out.

as for alarms...I have a Brant immobiliser/alarm noted on my policy but i didn't get a discount. They had a "Immobiliser Campaign" last year where you could recieve a discount, but the immobilisers had to be fitted by a CAR-SAFE approved installer, and Brant wasn't on their list unfortunately.

my r33 gtst is 850 per year with suncorp. It in my dads name as a rating 1, and when i spoke to them last, under all new policies, they will now no longer insure unlisted under 25s... again, thanks to boxhead :D

only killer with suncorp is excess. I think mines something like 2800 if I crash, compared to my 4wd of $300.

i just had a nice think about it, now...

last year as most of you know i went through a barbed wire fence...

now, lets say i wasnt insured.. it would have cost about 7800 all up, including me changing the front bar, and color which didnt need to be done,

now people might say, i didnt damage much, but remember 90% of the car had to be resprayed because of the barbed wire..

so if i had that same crash, and same cost this year, and didnt have insurance, i have saved 800, on the premium, dont forget the excess which is 800 aswell..

now, the way i think of it best is to sorta insure yourself.. have a look at the premiums, and simply save that much over the year, or as quick as you can, and put in it an invester account, which you can access if need be, but it earns more money, and then same thing next year... but once you have the valued amount of your car, no more doing it. because a) your money will grow untill you take the money out.. and B) the worst you could do is right it off, costing you the amount you have saved...

paying half the cost of the car to insurance company is ludachrist.

i recon thats a great idea. thats great thinking. if everyone started to do this then the insurance companies would wake up to them selves and start charging realistic prices.
