Hey there

i have an r33 gtst and my fuel gauge will not move of the full mark until i have done around the 300km's mark. Im wondering if this is a common problem for the r33 skylines cuz one of my mates 33 does the exact same thing but around the 250km's mark. does anyone have any idea of what i can do to fix this so that my gauge goes down consistently with my petrol usage?

cheers iLEC ;)

Yeah mine does similar - but only until about 50klms or so - after that it moves.

Skyline fuel gauges are notorious for being misleading....

for example, at the empty line once i pumped up to 45 ltrs indicating 20 ltrs left, then another time at the empty line i pumped up 55 ltrs indicating 10 ltrs left...go figure ;)

Edit - could explain why my friends r33 was full tank, then the next time he drove it - it was half tank....

Yep - I had the same sort of problem. Think I have solved part of it anyway. I picked up my mint S2 R33 25T 2 months ago and put in my first tank of fuel... Needle read full for about 120 kays then it jumped to empty. I shat myself cause I thought it had used a full tank in 120kays!! My mechanic replaced the sender unit in the fuel tank and this helped. The sender unit was half of the problem as it was stuffed. The guage still fluctuates a bit, so the next thing im looking at is the actual guage in the dash. I reckon it sticks. I have seen it jump from full to a quater in the space of seconds while I have been driving (with a new known good and tested sender unit in place)- SO... Out goes the instrument cluster ands in goes the 320kph nismo dash with much attention being paid to the fuel guage!! ;-)

Hope this helps u guys!

Cheers,

Chris.

the needle will move around a bit depending on the angle of the car. if you park sideways on a hill then it will change the reading. this is due to the position of the sensor. hold a glass of water at an angle. the water doesn't stay level with the cup, but level with the ground.

if you fill your tank right up you should drive about 30-50km before the needle moves. this is because you generally fill up well past what the sensor sees as full , so you use up fuel before the sensor reads any change.

    • Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
