hey guys,

just wondering when u get a wheel alignment, is there anything they should do with the hicas when they align it??

thanx 85URK

They should leave the car running while doing it!

bunch of comedians arent we, thanx anyway, i think i know what the problem is, when i had a wheel alignment just recently... apparently that doesnt include balancing of the 4 wheels, so they only did the 2 reear tyres they replaced... pretty f**kin stupid if u ask me, i wanted them to do the balance aswell but i though it was all included in the alignment.....

yeah balancing is a seperate service, really it should only need to be done when you put a tyre on a rim, unless you loose a weight it should not really change in the life of the tyre....

I wish. my last set of firestones were so crappily made that the balance was done 3 times over thier short life span, When I asked them why they told me they were crap and had the same problem with other owners of these tyres. I have Yokohama R1s now much happier.

if the tyre wears evenly, the balance won't change. but this is rarely the case...

balancing and alignment are separate things. It shouldn't cost you much to take the car back and get the front wheels balanced, should only be $10 or so per wheel.

or just go back and argue with them. Say, cmon, you got a full wheel alignment done and 2 new tyres farkin balance the fronts! it will take them 10 minutes...

hey all first things first you are supposed to get your tyres rotated and balanced every ten thousand km's and a wheel alignment too and if you over inflate your tyres will wear in the middle if you ander inflate they will wear on the outside if you don't rotate enough they will start to heel and toe which in other words parts of the tread will lift and they will make a howling noise and you should be carerful where you take it to get wheel aligned some people are dodgey remember if you have too much neg camber your tyres will wear on the inside and yeah you should get a print out when you get it done saying what the specs are and what settings you had and what they are now just watch out some places do rip you off too

well for starters i can rotate my rims bcoz of the fronts being a 235 and the rear being a 255 also they are directional tyres so can even swap sides. they re balanced the front wheels for me, which were taken off at another tyres shop to remove grass from and off i had. which he did not do a balance for me when they were put back on bcoz i told him not to, so iwhen i got new tyres i would get them all done at once (thinking it was included in the wheelalignmet) silly me. also one of the weights was missing off the front wheel. so that was the shudder in could feel. its all good now they fixed it all for $10.

    • Which manifold mate? Meanwhile......Mark is wondering how bonnet vents would look on the NC 🤣
    • Actually,  just remembered there should be info in the threads (somewhere) about swapping to a manual steering rack and deleting power steering all together.
    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
