il try not to drain on but yeah r33's especialy series 1 are getting old its a shame nissan didnt make an r35 to continue the legend.

however most still would rip a new wrx or heavy v8 super tank and they still manage to turn heads to the legions of fans young and old even if stock.

btw isnt a house deposit 10%??..... 25,000 sounds more realistic?

however i could be wrong as i am not yet in the market for a house.

for what its worth i drive a 96 r33 series 2 auto na (no im not a girl)

i got it 4 months ago and payed $11,000 it has 94,000k's and got itfrom a car yard its in almost perfect condition apart from the a stone chip or 2

turbo manual s2's were going for 13,500+

The more you spend on a car, the more it depreciates..

At worst (very worst - petrol goes up to $2.50/L), a 13-14k R33 now will be worth like $8k in 2 years time... that's $3k a year, or $58 a week. It's no worse than any other car at the end of the day.

If you want to not put up with that, buy a shitter.. as they are truly the bottom of the depreciation barrel. But then you probably won't be satisified with it driving it every day. It's just the way things go.

Me? I like cars. Mine make me feel good. When they stop making me feel good I piss them off and get something else. So seeing the writing on the wall my plan is, while these cars make me feel good to ensure the V8 Soarer goes, the auto R33 goes, the R33 track car will go and the Lynx goes too to be replaced with a 350GT CVT8 and some form of dedicated track car and trailer, and a ute for the work I have in mind. The GTR33 will stay forever at this stage. My mate with an RX8 and a background in decent performance cars drove it 3 days ago and is still wetting his pants.

If I didn't want to feel good I'd buy a shitter, but a car has to make me feel good so the ute will prolly be an XR6T.

If you still get a smile driving your car then keep it, otherwise move on but don't whine about prices. If you did drugs they wouldn't be there in the morning to enjoy again without worrying if the new batch you just scored was going to kill you.

Keep your R33 and enjoy it... You only live once. What is a few $$$ in the big picture. I know when I am 65 I will not care I will look back and say that I enjoyed every muinite of being young and all the stuff that went along with it.

I bought my car for just under 18 grand at the start of the year, mint condition, hardly used.

If in the near future (2-3 years) I sell it and get over 10 grand for it Im still laughing cos I am prepared to lose that kind of money as its hardly 15 K Ive mentioned above.

i think many people complain about this here is because 90% of Skyline drivers are usually uni students with no stable income... ages between 18 and 30.

it is all about the number of them for sale. the reason why there is a big price drop in falcons and commodores is because there are lots of them for sale, and there are lots of company cars for sale too, which drops the price again. a lot of people lease them and then sell them after 2 years to get another 1, so they can right the lease repayments off on tax.

Yes the fact that there is a commodore released in Aus every 2 or so years is the biggest cause of it.

a clean 32 will go for anywhere between $10,000 and $20,000. just depends on how dumb the buyer is. some people will just think that since it is $20,000 and looks tidy it must be worth it, while there may be one that is better at $12,000, but since it is $8,000 less it must have something wrong with it.

but i paid about $11,000 for my stock, manual, turbo, 95 r33 (purely a case of right place, right time). sure it isn't the cleanest car around (has a scratch on the side, and the gear boot and knob are stuffed), but the rest of the car is tidy. the motor looks like it has done the k's that the speedo says, unlike some that say they have done 60,000kms but the engine looks like it has done about 100,000km.

Im in a rare scenario where my car has not dropped in value a red cent in nearly 3 years of owning it.

I wanted a turbo skyline so off to the importers I went. There was a lightly modded R32 manual and an R31 GTSR that had a cat back exhaust only. But factory fitted it had a TO3/4, nismo tubular extractors, a large front mount and decent seats, oh and they only made 800 of them. I took the R31. 3 years down the track they still attract prices from $13K to $17K.

My R33 GTS25T with a full bodykit, 17 inch rims, lowered, strut brace and a 3 inch pipe exhuast system was 15k manual and only done 80 000 km on the clock no problems with it what so ever, have thrown abit of performance bits on since but couldnt belive my luck when i found it like "mad082" said i've talkt too other R33 GTS-T Drivers that have payed 17K+ for a stock R33 just got too look around really but yes they have dropt dramatically in the last 6 months to a year what in a way is pretty shit as there becoming alot more common

Cars are made to be driven. Trailer, Dyno queens are nice but you cant really drive them.

You will always loose money on any car. A car is only worth how much someone is willing to pay.

You have an all original 50-60's vette or jag or whatever you wont loose money on those but I dont know too many ppl that would pay for a totally stock vette or jag mint condition that has no mod cons unless it was just some rich guy to add stuff to his collection. Figure those odds.

Same token I've sen guys in the states that drop stupid amounts of money on their cars and and just barely get half of what was invested.

As for auto, man those that hate em have never really been in a drag car that has them set up the right way. nothing like just point the car and hit the gas.

As for road racing you need a stick but as tech advances it starting to give those manuals a run.

You guys are prolly gonna hate me but I'm looking to put a auto to my R33 GTR. so I'll have a 6 speed up for sale when its done. Nothing like a boosted launch 2500 stall and AWD to blow the doors of most cars down the track.

Yeah the prices have dropped a lot in the last year, i remember when i was lookin around for one they were about $18000- $23000 here in QLD depending on condition that was the market back then.

Sometimes i wonder if i got ripped off i payed $27000 for mine, but it did have receipts for $50000 worth of recent mods and dyno sheets pushing out 440rwhp, the guy before me spent a shit load of money and i do feel sorry for him, i wonder what people would pay for it today do you think i would still get around mid 20s for it.

if u really wantto minimise loss on cars, u'd buy thruough a business etc.

thats what my parents do, and stick to euro cars which hold value for longer, work out residuals etc.

buying cars for enjoyment however, ur always going to lose out.

i had this option, buy a new car thru the company lease etc. but i said no and bought a relatively cheap 2nd hand car that i'd enjoy.

ofcourse the depreciation of my car compared to a new one is hardly anything.

i bought a line cuase i always wanted one, drove a few of the family's as my aunty and my cousin both owned 1 ea, fell in love straight away, that was when i was 15, im 24 now, bought my own after id saved up enough, 6 months ago actually, but was looking towards the 4 door awd's with a major pref for the evo since ver 6, EVEN ver 7, heh, anyways, loved the line, was in the prioce range for a 32r or a 33t, without backup cash incase i had problems i went the 33t, which i slightly regret now, atleast until i jump in for a hoon. but sooner than later im going to need a 4 door, that evo would have been nice but now if im real lucky il only loose about 3k of my purchase price.... kinda crap for 6 months aye
